BS: Vanilla Coke

Subject: Vanilla Coke
From: GUEST,Coca Cola drinker

Has anybody tried this new Vanilla Coke? I love the original Coca Cola (now known as Coca Cola Classic), but I hated New Coke (it was like Pepsi, ugh).

I've seen all the ads for Vanilla Coke, but I wanto to hear about it from someone who's tried it before I lay out a buck for something I might not even like.

Opinions PLEASE!

I love it! I've been a (classic) Coca-Cola drinker for 50 years. I always liked getting a fountain coke with vanilla flavoring, and this is nearly as good. Must admit I still need a "real" Coke early in the day.

I also like cherry Coke. And, I like cherry-vanilla Coke. So, sometimes I mix the new vanilla Coke and the cherry Coke. Nearly as good as fountain-mixed ... nearly.

As much as I like vanilla in other places, it tastes insipid to me.

Not as great as a fountain vanilla Coke, but pretty damn good! When I was a kid I loved them and the new bottled product tastes good to me.....more like a Coke Float than a Vanilla Coke, but very good!! My favorite flavored fountain coke was (and is) chocolate......The little drive-in here does them for me all the time!

Chocolate coke, 'spaw? Doesn't your nose get all gummed up. And then there's the brown nose; it could give people the wrong impression.

Vanilla Coke, and Cherry Coke are the types of things I occasionally buy a single-serving of on impulse. They are not anything I would buy in the grocery store in take home packages. The desire to drink something weird just doesn't strike me every time I get thirsty. For everyday consumption it's Coke or Sprite.

Vanilla and Cherry Coke are OK; I don't drink much soda though. Kate likes vanilla Dr. Pepper.

After gagging on "Lemon Coke", I haven't even considered trying Vanilla. Maybe if they give away freebies or tastes at a mall...but I never go to a mall. Nevermind.

I've found the vanilla Coke in the bottle is much better than the cans. It has to be served very, very cold. My daughter tried it when it wasn't chilled enough and thought it tasted like dirt. I tried it again and she was right!

Eh, it's not piss, I guess. But the vanilla tastes fake, and it seems to have some sort of nasty chemical aftertaste. Otherwise, it's swell!

I can't believe what I'm reading.
Vanilla belongs in milk, not fizzy drinks.
What a disgraceful abuse of good vanilla.

I'm waiting for Diet Vanilla Coke (supposed to be out shortly). I refer Diet Coke, because it tastes less sticky (sticky as a taste?). My favorite so far is Diet Lemon Coke. I kinda feel sorry for the soda companies though, there is no way for them to satisfy everybody, just for Vanilla Coke you'd have to have:
  • Vanilla Coke
  • Caffine Free Vanilla Coke
  • Diet Vanilla Coke
  • Diet Caffine Free Vanilla Coke
I hate it when Company A tries to make their product more like Company B's. The very reason I buy product A is that it's different from product B! Marketroids! Get A Clue!

To bring this into (somewhat) the realm of music, when one performer or group abandons their style in order to emulate another performer or group...

Diet Coke is the definite winner. Lemon Coke sucks. I wouldn't touch vanilla Coke with a 10' straw.

Danged. The year was like 1959 and Jim Clark and I would walk the 3/4 miles to the Drug Fair on Graham Road. You know the one. Right accross the road from the airport with the dirt runway where my dad would take me and pay one of the half drunk pilots a couple of bucks to take me up fir a half an hour in an old Piper Cub. Yeah, there at the Drug Fair, you could do all your Chistmas shopping and in the back was a soda fountain where you could get and order of french fries for 15 cents and, you guessed it... a vanilla coke for a dime... Well, I's take the fries and the coke into the old wooden phone booth and put my 5 cents in it and call Nina Williams and we'd talk for an hour. Me... munchin' fries and sippin that vanilla Coke and Nina, whew, just keepin' a 13 year old boy's heart beatin' a little faster.....

Nanci Griffith has a line about hopping off the bus and going into the woolworth's store when it smelled like popcorn in there-and getting a vanilla coke. it seems there was something about bubble gum stuck to the bottom of a shoe, too. and the elevator which ahd a bell that went..ding... I think it was on Congress Avenue--in Texas... I'm a dr. pepper fan myself, so not likely totry coke of any flavor--what's this i hear about vanilla dr. pepper?

I was surprised to see someone praising Diet Lemon Coke.
DLC must be the most disgusting brew since the time I accedentally ordered Bovril with milk and sugar from a hot drinks machine as a 10 year old (that's what you get for not paying attention).
Coke with lemon (preferrably lemon juice) is quite pleasant, Coke with oversweetened "lemon" (more likely artificial "lemon-type-flavouring") syrup is quite foul - the last time I had some, I had to put in about a quarter glass of lemon juice to mask the additives - never again.
As you may have gathered, I didn't like Diet Lemon Coke.

Ron, the reason it tastes better very cold is the reason that American-style beer tastes better very cold and the craft brewed and European beers can stand to be luke warm. Cold camouflages lack of taste. Sorry, my friend, I will pay for the extra taste and extra calories even though, as you know, I can't afford the calories.

Vanilla Coke is vile, icky and beyond bad!

I do like the new Snapple - Lime Green Tea. Very refreshing.

Glenn - don't worry, I'm sure that there's no real vanilla involved. Coca-Cola don't even put any lemon or lime in their lemon and lime flavoured drink. Vanilla is considerably more expensive.

It's really all just water and chemicals and carbon dioxide. But at least it's got real sugar in it. I mistakenly bought Pepsi Max today (it was 2 for 1). I didn't realise it was sugar-free (which just means vile flavoured chemicals instead).

Yuck. If it can be copared to any drink, I guess it tastes kind of like a cream soda. The only ones I can stand is diet Dr. Pepper or MAYBE diet coke.

I agree with Wincing Devil (great name, do you mince and wince?). Sugary coke tastes kinda gooey. Why not make a low sugar Coke? A bit more astringent, if you please. For reasons unknown, I can't tolerate Pepsi, and there are stores, airlines, the local excuse for a University, where you can't get a choice. Imagine a Pepsi soda machine right next to another Pepsi soda machine. I believe this is one of the earmarks of the coming Apocalypse.

All these dreadful drinks are ruining the soft drinks industry in the UK. How anyone can drink them when there's Dandelion and Burdock and Ginger Beer and Bitter Lemon available I'll never know. I only buy them if they're really cheap or there's nowt else.

I'm surprised by the number of yes votes here. From what I've heard on the streets Vanilla Coke is really bad, I heard don't bother more than once. I've been waiting to find it a 6 oz bottle. My wife and son both hated it.

I like Real Coke or Cherry Coke with Jim Beam on the side.

Did you here the story about Pepsi putting thier "One" release on hold for a year because they couldn't figure out what to call it. What in the world do you call a one calorie soft drink? Doh, high paid exec's, go figure.

Sorry, Les, it doesn't have real sugar in it either anymore. It has "high fructose corn syrup". Which is one reason for the demise of the sugar industry in Hawaii. Which in the long run may not be too bad, since some people are managing to plant diversified crops on old sugar land. In the short run, though, it's caused a major depression in this state over the past ten or fifteen years, especially on the Big Island, where I lived until this month. But that's show business.

What I really miss, though, is Moxie.

Aloha,
Mark

Mention of high fructose corn syrup reminds me that in other countries they often use real sugar beause they do not have to subsidize the corn growers.

Having had the chance to drink drinks sweetened with sugar and HFCS soon after each other, it is no contest. To me, the sugar (sucrose) tastes better than the HFCS. Another reason the bottlers use HFCS is that it is cheaper than sugar, so they get more bang for the buck.

I didn't know that about the sugar. You poor things! Even your own crappy drinks taste even crappier.
