Finding a practice buddy

Now that I've ceased making awful beginner violin noises and can play the basics of most tunes more or less on sight, I want to find a practice buddy to start working on the musicianship stuff.

I'm not having any luck with the word-of-mouth technique, probably because I don't really know any local musicians. Anyone have any suggestions for finding a practice buddy, or know anyone in the Sacramento, CA area that might be looking?

Come in Amos--calling Amos!! Joe, how close are you?

Over the last few years I have met with three different players, people who needed practice or a bit of guidance or just experience in playing with someone else. One was a banjo player, another played guitar and the current one plays mandolin. The banjo player asked me to meet with him, and I made the suggestion to the other two. We meet/met once or twice a week for a couple of hours. This is all free of charge, of course, and I get a lot of fun out of seeing them become more proficient and more self-confident.

I suggest you look around and find someone who has a lot of time available (as I do) and who enjoys playing anywhere, any time. Good luck.
