From: Noreen

Hi all,

I'm looking for more information about a song of Vin Garbutt's, which may be called the Wedding Song, to sing at a friends' wedding at the beginning of September.

It's to the tune of Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring (well, the first part of it anyway!)

Any information gratefully received...

Noreen ... there's a message board on Vin's web site. That might be worth trying if you have no luck elsewhere.

Thanks, Hazel, I'll try that.

Nobody else here heard of it?

I have it on Vin's album - The Bypass Syndrome.
Its called The November Wedding.
He also plays the waltz "The South Wind" between the second and third stanzas and at the end.

Apologies for the format. Many of the lines and verses are sung without a clear break.

Dave.

THE NOVEMBER WEDDING
(Garbutt)

Dancing and singing, bell ringing,
And bringing in flowers of springtime,
In autumn for you, Love,
With thoughts of the true love
That I hold for you, Love.

For I have no other,
It bothers me not,
That my lot is with you,
For a lifetime or longer,
My love it grows stronger,
It knows no bounds.

Sounds of the South Wind, And whistling,
And wedding rings glistening on fingers,
And singers of songs raising voices, rejoicing,
The choice of each other.

As partners in marriage, the carriage,
That carries us into the future,
The presents material, feelings ethereal,
Casting the fear of all...

Trouble and strife,
That this life,
Has to offer,
The coffers of nature,
Are open to creatures, gentle and charming,
As you are, my true love.

For I have no other,
It bothers me not,
That my lot is with you,
For a lifetime or longer,
My love it grows stronger,
It knows no bounds.

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 18-Aug-02.

Many thanks, Dave. Now, I just need to hear it sung to know exactly how it fits with the tune. Is the bypass syndrome still available, I wonder?

Think I might sing this at Doom, Gloom and Despondency next Sidmouth... what d'you think, Dave??

I am sure the Bypass Syndrome (Home Roots Music HRCD008) will still be availble.

If you sing the November Wedding at the Doom Gloom and Despondency, I will personaly ensure that you are evicted before the second stanza. However, on the same album are some real posibles: "Dish of Glass" (Anti genetic engineering) "If I Had a Son" (Don't go down the mine song) "The Potash Song" (Don't go down the potash mine song) "Tipperary Girl" (Anti abortion) "Nawa's Song" (Anti Iraqui regime) "The Bloom of the Broom" (lots of dead plants)

In fact appart from the title track (Anti road building), "Page Three Girl" (anti public nudity), wonderful "The November Wedding" and four great tunes, the rest of the album is emminately suitable.

Unfortunately the 'powers that be' at Sidmouth are unlikely to book Vin because of the opinions expressed in many of his songs.

I don't agree with a lot of Vin's opinions myself, but I will defend his right to sing about them.

He is a great performer and I am looking forward to see him at any festival or club that will book him.

Dave.

Thank you, I would expect nothing less than eviction- might be fun to try though!

I'll look out for the Bypass Syndrome at Whitby this w/e; sounds like a good crop there, particularly "The Potash Song".

Thanks again for your help :0)
