Also please make a point of calling me up so we can invite you for dinner or go for a beer when you are next in this town (Cologne). You'll have some fun with the dialect here after your Berlin days! Well Joe.......Here it is. Someone has started a birthday thread for you and you hate them. What is there left to say? I know all the messages always say the same thing and you hate that but if I say something different to appease you as I do on most BD threads, then in essence I'm saying the same thing as I always do, so what's the point....which is your point.....which matches the point on your head......the one where hair no longer grows. I see in another thread that Kendall is actually removing his ass in public so maybe that would be a special birthday treat you'd consider for yourself. I dunno' what the point of debutting yourself is, but if it works for Kendall maybe you should give it a try.

Subject: RE: Joe Offer HAPPY BIRTHDAY
From: Rick Fielding

Oh what to do, what to do!

Not only does Joe hate Birthday threads, but at least once a year he publicly (well on Mudcat, anyway) chastises us for participating in them. Oh, the pressure to conform to his wishes! I really DO try, ya know Joe...I NEVER feed Trolls, I never contribute to Little Hawk's Shatner drivel even though we're practically neighbours.....I never get involved in "Mudcat censored me", or "Max has some s'plainin to do" threads.......I've never even had an argument with McGrath of Harlow (although everyone tells me it's a wonderful experience) and frankly my biggest beef with the Pope is why he doesn't retire and let YOU do all that running around. Hell, you use a microphone much better than him anyway.

So.....no birthday greetings from me. Sorry.

Cheers

Rick (and heather, who also doesn't wish you happy birthday)

Tardy best wishes, Mr. Offer sir. Hey, birthdays can be an embarrassing pain in the arse but having them is better than the alternative, right? And, Winters Wages, congratulations, and hang in there. The first year or so after a transplant is often what you might call "interesting times" but for most people, it gets much easier after that. Good luck with it all!

Dear Joe -

To the man who hates birthday threads. I'll couch this message in a lyric request. Say, Joe, do you know the words to that song that goes "Da-d-dee-daah, doop-doop-da-doooo...." I believe it was sung by the Kentucky Klezmer Ramblers.oh, by the way, happy birthday. Yeah, it was sung in the 1960's, but might date back to 1940.....

I figure that if Joe really wanted to avoid joining the ranks of the birthday-threaded, he wouldn't have said anything to the Ducks (Geoff and the Missus) about the significance of the date! So, happy belated birthday, Joe, and thanks a million for all you do for us at Mudcat. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to...

(At least being birthday-threaded isn't as much of a public embarrassment as having that repetitive song sung to you, or being made to blow out candles – not that I don't enjoy that stuff, but not everybody appreciates it!)

Many happy returns of the day!
Sharon

There were a number of British Mudcatters who were pretty darn proud of their sneaking in a Joe Offer birthday thread. Well, I gotta say, I enjoyed the good wishes, in spite of my opposition to the repetitiveness of birthday threads.

Ah, but Mrs. Duck, it appears you may be mistaken as to the date....
When I spoke of my birthday in the pub, I spoke the truth, but in a way that was misleading.
Yes, I was born in August, in the period attributed to those who are called "Leos." But I was born in a leap year, and in a time zone different from BST.

For copyright reasons the "Happy Birthday Song" is not sung in commercial USA settings. So many have adopted a "fast-chant" in restaurants

Not to mention - it gets the bus-boys back to work sooner.
