Does anyone have the lyrics to "Jealous Woman" by Graham and Eileen Pratt? I just introduced my US partner to that marvellous duo and she wants to learn the words. Thanks. Chris

Words as promised.

Mick

JEALOUS WOMAN
(Words: trad and Eileen Pratt; Tune: Graham Pratt)

  "O woman there ho-lay
Beside the shore ho-lay
Reach out your hand ho-lay
Pull me to land. ho-lay

(Refrain ho-lay follows each line as for first verse)

Have you no care
My life to spare?"
"No I don't care
For your despair.

Tonight I'll sleep
Between your sheets,
All soft and white,
All through the night.

O tonight I'll rest
On your love's breast,
All soft and warm
In your man's arms."

"Then say farewell for me
To my babies three;
Those I love best,
One still at breast."

"I'll say farewell for thee
To your brothers three.
Then you'll be found
All lying drowned."

"And all my curls so free
Torn by the sea.
And my breast milk
Lost in the silt.

O woman there
Beside the shore
Reach out your hand
Pull me to land."

The notes on To Friend And Foe say:
"This was suggested by a Hebridean song of the same theme and title. It gives an unusual account of the eternal triangle. A drowning woman begs assistance of her jealous rival, only to discover that her pleas are wilfully ignored. Eileen added to the traditional words and Graham wrote the music."

My lady and her daughters like to sing folk music for fun. We're very grateful for this. BTW do you know if any of the others are available online, our Google searches seem to suggest not? Thanks again Chris (and Tamara)

For completeness here's the basic tune. It omits the decoration (mainly on the ho-lay) and some tune changes in the later verses for tune fitting.

GUEST - by any of the others do you mean of Graham and Eileen Pratt's or folk music in general?

Mick

JEALOUS WOMAN
(Words: trad and Eileen Pratt; Tune: Graham Pratt)

Be-side the shore ho-/lay/
Reach out your hand ho-/lay/

I meant Graham and Eileen Pratt's lyrics. I am sure some of their trad repertoire will be out there, but wondered if there is anywhere which has the lyrics of their early albums "To Friend and Foe" and "The Clear Air of the Day" (both of which since divorce I have only as taped copies).

Chris

P.S. Thanks for the tune too, I'll pass it on.

The Black Fox is in the DT (look via alphabetical listing or search for "Graham Pratt" (inc quotes) in the DT and Forum Search box.

I posted The Bundling Song in the Forum - type Bundling in the Filter box and set Age to 3 years and the thread will come up.

There are a few sites devoted to Graham and Eileen, but not their lyrics that I know of.
