World Music TV and more

I've just discovered WorldLink TV, a 3-year-old US satellite channel started by a bunch of independent journalists who couldn't get their programs aired on PBS and decided to do their own thing. It's available on DirecTV (chanel 375) and Dish Network (channel 9410).

Right now, I'm watching a documentary on Czech gypsy singer Verea Bila. Yesterday there was a film on Native American peyote rituals. In between, the play world music videos that you won't see anywhere else.

But that's not all. WorldLink also airs their own political coverage of current events (e.g. the Johannesburg conference on sustainable development; the Mayan uprising in Chiapas) from a progressive viewpoint, giving you the side of the story that consistently gets suppressed in American commercial TV coverage.

For anyone who feels that the mainstream media are not giving you the whole story (gee, why would anyone think that?), this channel is ESSENTIAL. Check out their website. And tell a friend!

Cheers,
Michael

Wow! Fantastic! Thanks! I esp. found the Nu-Shu language of women very interesting.
