However, I found it mentioned at several web sites. MY EGGS DON'T TASTE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU was recorded by a band called Fabulous Farquahr (sic), a psychedelic pop band from the 60s, and released as a single, along with SISTER THERESA'S EAST RIVER ORPHANAGE, in 1968. I could only find one quoted line: "My eggs are scrambled and my life is in a shambles"—or "My life's in a shambles. I can't eat my scrambles."—depending on whom you believe. |
01 Jan 07 - 03:42 PM (#1924212) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Eggs Don't Taste the Same without You From: Anglo The Fabulous Farquahr, fronted by the McGowan brothers, were regulars in the taverns of Mount Snow (southern Vermont) back in the 70s - mostly acoustic at that point, and I don't know their earlier (or later) history. They were a very entertaining bar band, often with packed happy-hour crowds, and I certainly remember Eggs, though I never did learn the words. |

They were from Connecticut originally and evolved out of a mid-60s Kingston Trio-ish folk act called the McGowan Brothers, and as Anglo wrote they were a pretty good bar band. |
18 Apr 07 - 01:22 PM (#2029069) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Eggs Don't Taste the Same without You From: GUEST,micah I believe the McGowan Brothers and The Fabulous Farquahr had roots in and around the Branford, CT. area. Serious, skilled musicians, but they didn't take themselves as seriously as some. There was an element of fun and joy incorporated in their performances that brightened an evening in a bar-room atmosphere. They were entertaining in the Mt. Snow, VT. area in the late sixties. Had a following in several areas of New England. One song, "The Provincetown Jug and Marching Band" may have spawned or inspired the group by that name that played at the P-Town Surf Club for thirty years or more; and may still be warbling on occasion. Both groups were dynamic and added many laughs to an evening, often at their own expense. peace micah |

Came across this: Frank McGowan June 08, 1939 - October 21, 2004 http://memorialobituaries.com/memorials/memorials.cgi?action=Obit&memid=136379&clientid=clancy He was born in New Haven June 8, 1939, son of John and Margaret Purcell McGowan. He worked as an entertainer as Flamingo Farquahr in the musical group The Fabulous Farquahr, and he had a lifelong interest in classic cars. He was a longtime member of the Ancient Mariners Drum Corps, and the Sons of the Whiskey Rebellion. peace micah |

Doug Lapham(Barnswallow) wrote some good tunes. From Branford CT. The only Mcgowan left is Bobby or (Hummingbird). Also known as El Groino and Rocky Gay. I have a boot from 1969 mount Snow. |

I didn't see them all that often, but it was fairly frequent - I was in Wilmington VT from 1972. Sorry to hear they're all gone except Bobby. |

21 Aug 07 - 03:15 PM (#2130559) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Eggs Don't Taste the Same without You From: GUEST They were unique and fun. Bobby was and is a tremendous musician. Frank was the great storyteller and MC, Doug the voice and songwriter and Dennis the rowdy energy and gifted rythem player. A great combo. I know some who wished they were more serious and so forth but then again, they were all able to earn a living from doing what they loved. What I will remember about Frank and Dennis the most is how they loved life and loved to have fun, even when life dealt an awfull hand. The garage where they restored old cars was always bieng visited by friends. Don't know how they ever got work done in there...Dennis and Frank would always be outside bullshitting. Wish there was a group like the Farquahr around these days.

Does anyone have contact info for Doug? Better yet any tapes of shows or songs, that could be digitized. If you need to post here ask a moderator to reopen it.
