(I can vouch for the authenticity of the last mentioned, as the wife will be dancing with the Asian Apple dancers on Sunday, and no doubt hoofing to my rendition of *Johnny Come Down To Hilo*, an old traditional mountain mans sea shanty!!!) Oh yeah, it's on this weekend 5th - 8th in Deal, Kent. And I expect the usual amount of anti-French sentiments (expressed in song) just a stones throw from the Tunnel. Just to be awkward I will sing a couple of French shanties, unless any froggies are present to complain re: my accent. |

There seems to be a lot of Cloggers & Morris dancers. It is spread around the town taking in a few hostelries. There's a concert at the Astor Theatre Arts Centre, Stanhope Road, Deal on Saturday night at 8.00pm with Baggyrinkle, Carmine and Richard Grainger. Here's a list of performers during the day: Bishop Gundolf's Morris. Woodchurch Morris. Deal Hoodeners. Baggyrinkle. Frog Island Morris. Richard Grainger. Kent Korkers & Pork Scratchins. St Clements Clogs. Seisiun & Adrian O'Sullivan. Kettle Bridge Clogs. L'Agodasse. Headcorn Morris. Tanglefoot Appalachian Cloggers. Copperfield Clog. The Railway Swing Band. The day events are from 10.00am through to 4.00pm. on Saturday, and 11.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday. I think the King's Head Forecourt is the main stage with PA. See you there? Dave & The Baggies.

Wife dances and plays melodeon for 'em (not both together, yet) and dances with Tanglefoot, and with anybody else at all, really. A dancing fool, that woman. I shall merely watch and sing a bit, unless the falling-down water gets me first! Aint no camp site, so will have to park the camper on the prom unless anyone knows different? |

As a result, we had to "hightail it" back to Dover after our set at the Concert venue, to avoid being locked out!! What a lovely festival, despite the rain forcing us into The Royal King's Head and having to drink "London's Pride" It was nice meeting The Hoodeners, Bishop Gundulf's Morris Men and fellow-Mudcatter, "Dead Horse". Perhaps you can tell us a little bit about "Bishop Gundulf"? We enjoyed the session at The Ship. (Great beer there!) Thanks to one and all for making us feel so welcome. Not enough emphasis on shanty this year, but what was there was damn good, them Welsh speaking lot especially. I shall now be able to amaze, confound and confuse the rest of Dead Horse with the proper chorus to Hob Y Deri Dando. I'm sitting here listening to A Pound & A Pint (Baggies tape) and wishing that a pint WAS a pound, and not two or even more! I really enjoyed the harmonies on Rolling Home. We even managed to convince our lovely (but gullible) Jill that you were sailing to Swansea by way of Honnerlee, in order to visit Puff the magic dragon (Welsh, of course!!!) |
