Guitar Tuner - simple solution

Most mobile phones are equipped with the facility to compose your own dial tone tune. Simply install the tune E A D G B E (or several tunes to suit whichever instruments you play). Check the tones against an authentic tuner and hey presto, you have a guitar tuner by simply listening to your own dial tone. Unfortunately MY phone does not have the "compose" facility. Does anybody know of a "tune" website that includes guitar tuning in its downloads.

Isn't the plain old dial tone that's been around for decades A=440?

Try AP on a search engine. From memory it is Applied Phonics, and it has both guitar and full tuners. The best I've found, and a free download. Wassail.

Isn't it simpler just using an electronic tuner, they come pretty cheap these days, with the chromatic scale, which is handy for funny tunings.

But trying to tune to a mobile phone in a noisy pub sounds like hard work to me. I need thsat little green light or pointer on a dial.

And one handy thing with a tuner is that you can use it to check what key someone is singing in or playing in, and come in on target. Make people think you have perfect pitch, if you like. Can't do that with a mobile.

My dial tone (I believe it's the old standard one) is closer to an F. I remember that being the case years ago when using it as a poor man's guitar tuner.

I'll almost 2nd that Ed...

The Intellitouch is a nice piece of tuner, in quiet or acoustic settings but I prefer my Sabine Stick On Tuner for that... For day to day gig life I found I had to get myself a Boss TU-2 Tuner Peddle in the end, because all my others were stymied by the noise level of the places I was playing in...

And well, it beats carrying a cell phone...

Never tried the footswitch although I can certainly see the benefit of it; the sabine seemed a little weird because you stick it on. Hmmmmm. How does it come off?

I am using the Intellitouch on my Les Paul and it cuts through pretty well.

The cell phone should always be set to vibrate!

Ed...

The stick on uses the same tech as post-it notes... so you stick it on, and when ya want it off, you just pull it off... easy peasy... It won't harm the finish... The 'pad' needs to be cleaned with a damp cloth from time to time, and it's HARD to see in bright sunlight...

Intellitouch did the smartest thing when they backlit their tuner! I'll get the next model of Sabine stick-ons when and if they back-light the tuner...
