07 Sep 02 - 12:09 PM (#778669) Subject: RE: Help: Session songs From: Herga Kitty I sing Hard Times in sessions too - in C... Ossian Publications have published 4 books of songs and ballads popular in Ireland. There are 50 songs in each. John Loesberg, who edited and arranged them, explains in the introduction to volume 1 that the purpose of the book is to provide songs that are actually popular in Ireland today (this was published in 1978!) so they include English, American and Scottish songs as well as Irish ones. Eg "Joe Hill", "Amazing Grace" and "The House of the Rising Sun". And Australian - volume 3 includes "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda". Volume 4 was published in 1989. The address was PO Box 84, Cork, Ireland, but they are now linked to the Living Tradition - try http://www.ossian.ie Kitty |

08 Sep 02 - 03:43 AM (#778981) Subject: RE: Help: Session songs From: Gurney All the above are great, but.... the Irish and others of a whimsical nature have a sense of humour, so how about: Lannigans Ball and The Rocky Road to Dublin - just for the fun of singing them. Sister Josephine and Bridget and the Pill - just for the fun of watching Irishwomens faces start beaming. Try to get hold of a recording by Sean Cannon. Have a good time. |
