Hi, I expect to be in the United States for two months, at least, starting on Sept. 20th. I hope to be travelling extensively (by train)to NY,CT,MA,ILL,OH,NM, and a few places in between. Has anyone any suggestions for Festivals or sessions roundabouts, anywhere really!

The Portsmouth (NH) Maritime Folk Festival will be taking place on Sept. 28 & 29. Details HERE

This is my first "blicky," so it might not work. Otherwis;www.folkhorizons.org.

New Hampshire is on the MAss. border and Portsmouth is 17 miles North.

There will be a goodly assortment of Mucatters there; hope to see you too -- Tom

The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is Oct. 5-13. No music to speak of, but the balloons are fun. Our local song circle /house party (sing around) is Oct. 4...small but friendly.

The Tucson Friends of Traditional Music web site's link page has connections to the New Mexico FolkMADS (NM Folk Music and Dance Society) web site (for Albuquerque, Santa Fe and northern New Mexico), and the Southern New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society (Las Cruces). And of course, if you come just a bit further west, there's stuff in Flagstaff, Prescott, Phoenix, and Tucson (Arizona from north to south).

In addition to regular sessions and dances in the region, in Prescott, Arizona, on October 4 and 5 there's a wonderful little festival of the region's folkies: the Sharlot Hall Museum Folk Music Festival. It's free and very friendly. Lots of concert and workshop venues going at once, indoors and out, and lots of jamming all around. There's a dulcimer festival outside Prescott Sept. 27-29, with evening concerts that are open. Click this.

Sounds like a fun trip.

When will you be in New Mexico? Will you be there long enough to take a side trip up to Colorado? If so we could try to get some Colorado 'Catters together for a jam.

Check out the International Bluegrass Festival in Guthrie, Oklahoma Oct. 3-5.

This site has many U.S. Music Festivals listed, with info.

Too bad you'll be through the Midwest too late to make it to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas (Sept. 19-22). It's one of the best.

Thank you all for the tips. I'm going to ALB for the balloon festival anyway and will try to visit some of the places suggested. Boston sounds a cert as I will be in that area for a while. Cheers, Mariner
