05 Sep 02 - 03:38 PM (#777655) Subject: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: CarolC Hi! So we're trying to decide where to do the deed (get married, etc.). What we're looking for is someplace where we can have the ceremony and then have a jam session afterwards. So a pub or something like that would be ok.
We're thinking about the Silver Spring - Wheaton - Takoma Park area as a likely possibility because most of my family is there. We have in mind the weekend of the 12th and 13th of October (this year).
Anybody got any great ideas? Anybody want to get invited (for wedding and/or jam)?
Thanks! Carol & Rob |

05 Sep 02 - 05:28 PM (#777719) Subject: RE: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: Big Mick Carol.......simple. Come to the Getaway and get married there. That is what Mario is referring to. But it might not work due to family. I would love this to happen, but the weekend is about the music and obviously you couldn't do both. Nice idea though, Mario. Mick |

05 Sep 02 - 07:28 PM (#777776) Subject: RE: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: CarolC Thanks Mick. One of the reasons we were thinking about the weekend before the Getaway for the wedding is because that would make it easier for us to attend the Getaway. We're about a 12 hour drive from the DC/Baltimore area right now. But if we work it right, the Getaway will only be a couple of hours from where we'll be staying for the wedding. |

05 Sep 02 - 08:00 PM (#777792) Subject: RE: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: The Pooka ~S~ : now what's all this talk about Amos-on-the-other- hand not having any shirtcollars? He's a very proper fellow and a good man to boot, which I often do, and I'm sure he has plenty of fine collars. Not to mention callers. I *told* you not to mention callers! If Amos did the wedding he'd run rings around the collars. Collar 'im, sez I. // But what if Carol the C & Jack the S were to splice the lines & loop the loops at my dear old DeeCee Almost Mater, Georgetown U.? THEN ye'll see some Collars begob! Not to mention Rules & Regs. I TOLD you not aaaah nevermind. On the OTHERother hand, I'm not sure how Fighting Father Feeney, SJ, feels about Chanteys. Apart from the Gregorian ones y'know. // You 2 lovepuffins still got 'em Cryin' You a River over on the Newfie Nuptials thread. Hurrah fer youse & hope the DC-area plan works out wonderfully, & I bet it will. / -Pook |

Too bad you're doing this during a 9 week gig, r'else I'd say he'd be a great one to do it. :::nudge, nudge::: As for places, here are some other ideas: You are already looking into the Royal Mile. Try also the Adelphi Mill. Quite inexpensive, actually, and it's a beautiful space. 2 of my very best friends were married there. Also, check with NCPPC (Nat'l. Capital Park and Planning Commission). There are a lot of little halls that they rent out for decent prices. There's always the Maryland Renaissance Festival! Lots and lots of really good music there (and I'll *DEFINITELY* be able to attend!!!!) |

06 Sep 02 - 09:05 PM (#778398) Subject: RE: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: Bobert Now all I can remember about that area is a girlfriend who lived off Colesville Rd that I dated just before going off yo college. I remmeber coming home at midnight on the beltway and it was empty. Nevermind. As fir the wedding there is such thing as a civil ceremony that takes place prior to the more planned and thought out ceremony. Then, anyone can do the officiating. Just an idea. Also, Rock Creek Park is not too far from Silver Spring. About 15 miuntes south on Geogia Ave. Mellow and wooded and quiet and safe as long as you're not an intern for a congressman... Oh, and a big congrates from down here in Misssion holler... Bobert |

07 Sep 02 - 06:39 AM (#778551) Subject: RE: Places for session & wedding: DC area From: Gurney Not where but how... We had a dance venue, with a Wedding reception for the family and guests, followed by a ceilidh(country dance) with a band and caller. The ceilidh was publicised by leaving invite cards around the local folk clubs for a couple of weeks. It was a great success, due to there not being much on that night, and we understand there was a jam afterwards into the small hours. Even the (non-folkie) family stayed to enjoy. Best wishes for the nuptuals and future. Chris & Judy. |
