07 Sep 02 - 12:47 AM (#778473) Subject: Words request 'Coal Hole Calvary?' From: Kipling Hello All, I'm looking for the words of a song, which I heard a Birmingham group (Birmingham u.k) sing. I think it's called 'Coal Hole Calvary' but am not sure. The chorus is something like this: Clittering, Clattering Coal Hole Calvary Whether it's rain or shine Clittering, Clattering Coal Hole Calvary Galloping down the mine. I think it is a song originating from the midlands. I would be glad if anyone could help because i'm living in Hanoi, Vietnam for one year. I would like the words so that I can learn it because I can clearly remember the tune. Hope you can help Chris |

BTW, it's "cavalry" rather than "calvary." I once did that, too.:-) Would love to hear more of your time in Viet Nam. kat |
07 Sep 02 - 07:42 AM (#778574) Subject: RE: Words request 'Clittering Clattering' From: Pied Piper The song was written by a freind of mine called Ted Edwards. I won't tell him you think he's from the Midlands as he's from Wigan (a "pie eater") and VERY proud of it. Check out some of his other songs, my favorite is "Albert Bury". All the best PP. |

The words on the link are not entirely correct. I will post these later when I get home from work |

I have a vague suspicion that my father sued to sing his one, so I shall look forward to hearing it again. |

Speaking as Ted's driver, companion, prompter, stooge, drinking buddy, guitar tuner, dogsbody, waiter, carrier of beer etc, a role which I filled for many a year Ted sang "Berry" whenever I heard him, which was often. I was a student and we worked on the basis "that them's as futch don't pay an' them as pays don't futch" which meant Ted bought most of my beer. Good lad Ted is |
09 Sep 02 - 03:54 PM (#779933) Subject: RE: Words request 'Clittering Clattering' From: Raggytash Kipling how are parts Eastern, I've looked at the words left on thread and basically they are not far wrong. However the line is NOT, I repeat NOT "Look out Injuns Cavalrys coming" it's and must be "BUGGER OFF INJUNS". Ted is quite insistent on this and it is his song |

Just wish I could find somewhere to sing with others here. Oh well, i'll manage- it's all bloody Karaoke here. No thanks i'd rather stick a chopstick up my nose. It's wonderful to think that you can be half way round the world from home (well nearly) and talk with people about things like this. Does anyone know of a recording of this from anywhere?'d be interested to hear it someday. Thanks again Chris |
