23 May 98 - 07:19 PM (#29090) Subject: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Chet W. There's a song I've looked for - just heard it again on the Prairie Home Companion except with different words - I believe the actual title is The Bohemian Girl, from an old light opera or some such. It starts "I dreamt I dwelled in marbled halls..." and the chorus repeats a few times "You loved me still the same...". If anyone has the whole lyric I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Chet W. |

24 May 98 - 11:22 AM (#29136) Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Alice I remember the first time I heard this song was when I was a little girl, watching a Laurel and Hardy movie. It was the one where they were gypsies who took in a little girl and raised her in their caravan. Jeanette McDonald sang "Marble Halls". alice |

25 May 98 - 12:46 PM (#29238) Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Richard Wright Well, well well--this is like a terminal case of deja vu all over again. On a shelf in our living room is a picture of me some few decades ago, in drag, as a 8-year-old Bohemian girl. My dad is standing beside me--he was the pirate King, or was it Gypsy King, who stole me. I still remember my lines, " I want to go home, I want to go home." My Aunt is also in the pictiure dressed as a "maid"?. I don't remember her part. They had my Dad play the part of the pirate King as they were afraid to have someone else "steal" me. Memories. Richard, What did the other 8 year old boys in school do to you when they found out?? Kind of like the having to be a boy playing Little Buttercup in HMS Pinafore. Or did you keep it a family secret? Sounds like it was great fun. Good thing you took photos. alice |
26 May 98 - 01:20 PM (#29334) Subject: RE: LYR REQ - The Bohemian Girl From: Richard Wright Alice; I made sure they didn't. In fact the pictures did not surface until recently, by which time I had two grown sons and there was less doubt about my masculinity--which is not to say my brothers and sons don't take the opportunity for some ragging. They aren't something I will post on the web on use on an album cover. Richard
