Ran across this Clancy Brother/Tommy Makem site on the web:

Warning!

DO NOT go to the above web site!

you will be inundated by pop-up ads for, of all things, a pop-up ad killer!

Besides, the site had little if any content of interest to Makem & Clancy fans

It never fails - there's always one super friendly person here.

I'd have to agree with WD, even if it's not friendly to do so. There is no content whatsoever at the site yet, only links to the Clancy/Makem/O'Connell sites already out there, which if you're a fan you can find on your own. Meanwhile, you will get more and more pop-up ads for each section of this vacant web site, including one saying "you are being inundated with Pop-Up ads, putting your internet privacy in danger. Eliminate these ads with our product!"

This means the site owner is getting ad revenue (and for an intensely irritating ad), and you are paying with your time and attention, in exchange for NO content at all. Perhaps in a few months the site will be worth visiting. Perhaps not. I'd wait a while to see.

If anyone would like to write to Tommy, pm me, and I'll give you his address. I won't, however, give anyone his phone number.

Thanks WD, for the clickies to the Official Sites of the good Doctors Clancy & Makem (U. of Limerick, honorary doctorates of letters last year.) I especially like makem.com, with lots of good info & lyrics, and showcasing Tommy's 3 musical sons. The tradition continues. / You know what I'd like to see happen? "The Makem Brothers and Aiofe Clancy". *There* ye go. / OKOK: just one concert. Fer ould times' sake. / *OKOKOK*: so I'll settle for just looking at Aiofe, already. She doesn't even have to sing. :)

Imagine that - fans of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem checking out their official sites which have good content.

One might start to assume the Clancy's & Tommy are nice guys who like their fans and want to continue promoting their own work.

Blackcatter - imagine that, indeed. Will wonders never cease? I'm not sure I understand your point, exactly; but I think maybe (?) I get your drift.

Two of the four original Clancy Brothers are dead, BC: Tom in 1990, Paddy in 1998, RIP. Liam, and Tommy Makem, are alive and singing. Unfortunately no longer as a duo, as they did for a glorious decade or so, doing work that some of us think far surpassed that of the beloved old quartet, artistically. Anyway, we're proud to be fans, and glad that others from both clans are carrying on.

As for "nice guys", I don't know any of 'em personally but have the impression that Dr. Makem is pretty nice. Damn funny, anyway. Now as for Liam, I dunno. Complicated fellow, I suspect. Read his book, you'll see. / But a Hell of a fine balladeer in his day. / & Why shouldn't they like their fans? Don't you like yours? I like mine. Both of 'em. :)

The Pooka -

I was just (sorta) saying that as a longtime fan - I've checked out the official sites and enjoyed them. My guess is that the brothers & Tommy are all nice and like their fans and was just (sorta) being a bit sarcastic about a need for crappy fan sites when good official sites are available (as is the Mudcat - a site for a lot of info if you know where to look).

by the way, Pooka is my craft (Pagan) name for going on 15 years. It's a pleasure to meet another Pooka.

pax yall

Blackcatter Pookabrother: I apologize. Too defensive. Misunderstood yez entirely. Thought you were taking a whack at my sainted oul' Lads. (Not that there's any law against that, nor lack of any reason for criticism.) I agree with you about crappy fan sites. And about this excellent Mudcat.

And Hurrah boys hurrah, for your fine craft-name! I've great respect for the Pagans I've met and/or read of. Good sensible peaceful & gentle folk. Haven't yet plunged into that particular Wiccat m'self; but maybe someday...or night...by the Rising of the Moon (Goddess/Mother)...My Mudname is stolen & truncated (to conserve Joe Offer's bytes) from Flann O'Brien's/Myles na gOpaleen's/Brian O'Nolan's (take yer pick) The Pooka Fergus MacPhellimey---not necessarily so gentle a character. :)
