I am now looking for work that requires intelligence, maybe statistics, research, thought, and maybe French, anybody know anything? (They took that job and shoved it...) |

Layoffs and "downsizing the company" are a bitch (I'm one of the many, many folks who've been there, done that) but they never mean that the layoffee has been downsized; however small they may make you feel right now, it's only a feeling and not a fact. Hope this turns into the beginning of a great opportunity for you: a life change, the perfect job, and/or whatever you're hankerin' for. In the meantime, take advantage of the break and do a little relaxing! Wishing you all the best, Sharon |

14 Sep 02 - 01:30 AM (#783665) Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy's on the dole From: Liz the Squeak Bummer, at least it was a 'downsizing' rather than a sacking... that sort of thing can really put a crimp in your CV! Take some time for yourself if you can, spend a week or two just doing all those odd jobs you never had time for, then you can concentrate better on the jobfinding. If I could do that every 6 months or so, I'd be saner and my house would be less cluttered!! LTS |

14 Sep 02 - 10:06 PM (#784166) Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy's on the dole From: Mrrzy Hey, yeah, Dani! Maybe they can help me get my resume into French, which is not something I actually have the vocabulary for (I can do the science, but not the publishing)... good thought, ask if you can pm me their email? Happy restaurant opening, maybe when the boys have a three-day weekend we'll pop down and sample. Frankly, I'm not going to worry unless I am still sans prospects by Thanksgiving. ...I said and said and said those words... I said them, but I lied them. (Extra points for recognizing the speaker of that quote.) That is, *I* am not worried. But I am chewing my cuticles to the absolute bone, and for the first time in my life have absolutely FEROCIOUS allergies - the sneezing (which would be OK if it didn't reach quite so far down my body during the excruciatingly extra-long AAAAAaaah phase), itchy eyes and nose and inside my EARS, and I seem to be allergic to kleenex as if I break down and use it my nose gets worse and the skin around it starts itching too NOT to mention my eyebrows and eyelashes, as if I were allergic to those little beasties that live there and clean the follicles and YES I've tried saline AND the naphta-whatever drops that you can't use all the time and Benedryl (which at least makes me sleep through some of it) AND non-sleepy formulas and I can't WAIT till Monday to go to a REAL doctor instead of a pharmacy and get something to put me out of this misery! Bloody unconscious! But I'm not worried, and it certainly beats still WORKING there! |

15 Sep 02 - 05:09 AM (#784249) Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy's on the dole From: Liz the Squeak Sounds like you've got the released worker version of Post Traumatic Stress there.... after being all pent up whilst being at work, you've been released from work and you're de-stressing at a furious rate. Body has decided it can't cope with it and has shut down a few things whilst it copes (bit like task manager asking you to shut down things when you run short on memory). It's a well documented fact that people under stress suffer more immediately it's removed. I get a migraine every first day of my holidays. People suffering stress at work are often worse at weekends, especially Sundays, when they have to pyche themselves up for Mondays. We've had a sudden spate of illness at work this week, and I feel like shite because we were told Thursday last, that our bullying boss is not coming back to my department. Everyone is so relieved, they just all let go and it took it's toll. My autumnal insomnia has come 2 weeks early and it's only now I'm recognising it as a symptom of de-stressing. Now I realise that, it's easier to manage. I'm doing my usual anti-stress things (painting, watching movies, listening to music, beating the crap out of small furry animals....) and it's working slowly. Your allergies are probably the result of you de-stressing; be careful, treat the symptoms but don't overdo it, you may remove any resistance you'd built up. Take care dear, relax, chill out, take some time to do something for yourself, and put earwax on your fingers. It should stop you chewing them. Failing that, keep them on a keyboard (computer or music, it doesn't matter) and keep them busy... type out all those songs on bits of paper... work out how to use another program, find out how the Blue Clickies work, anything to stop them going in your mouth! The pale green pants with nobody inside them were in my brain for decades before I re-read the Sneetches as a grown-up, but I had thought it was a lost lyric. I hope I'm destressed by now - the latest round of Benedryl seems to have knocked some sense back into my histamine system, so I only sneeze a dozen or so times a day already. I am looking for a hammock, but found a hot tub in the meantime! |
