A good segment on Weekend Edition Saturday on National Public Radio this morning was about old ballad singers in West Virginia, specifically Phyllis Marks. You should be able to hear the September 14 program at this link: Weekend Edition Saturday.

The segment about Phyllis is under the title "Heritage Festival".

Hi Alice!

I heard that program this morning, too. It was wonderful to hear that there are young singers out there learning the old songs and keeping them alive. Thanks for putting the link up here, I encourage everyone to go and have a listen!

All the best, Áine

Alice,

I'm glad you posted this--I heard it also, but now will toss the note that's still on my kitchen counter to look up the spelling of her name and the URL for Weekend Edition. That's the great thing about public radio--you can listen to the entire report online. It was a very nice piece.
