From: GUEST,Dave Hadfield Hi, Some friends and I play in a pub in Barrie, Ont, Canada, about once a month all winter, and last season my daughter Kelly, age 12, stood up and sang "The Water is Wide" with us. She sang well and it was a great hit with the crowd. But she can't keep doing the same thing. If anyone could offer a suggestion for another tune, something sweet and pure and from the folk genre, we would appreciate it. Thanks. |

It's a true story about a girl about your daughter's age who died at sea on her family's voyage from Ireland to Canada. Secondly, there's a local connection for you. The young girl's family settled in Vaughan Township near Woodbridge, just a few miles south of you.
The only thing I'm not sure of is whether a pub is the place to perform a Celtic tear jerker like this one! |

There are several versions of Ten Thousand Miles and Turtle Dove with lovely words, but none seem to have the tune I love. The Storms are on the Ocean would be nice for the band and the audience to sing harmony on the chorus.

I'm no parental ogre, by the way. We tried her first idea, Only Hope (Mandy Moore), and she found it difficult to get quite right. Also, to be honest, I'm not sure I'm up to playing it.
