I'll bet there are a lot of Mudcat musicians who would be happy to play a gig on October 3--My first choice would probably be Larry--

I don't see a lot of indication that the folks hereabouts wanted these kind of things posted here--there are plenty of folks who regularly post here who are actively performing, and most all of them have studiously avoided using the forum as a place to advertise for gigs--I think it is a bit over the line to take it upon yourself to start making this(or any kind of solicitation) a new feature--

I agree with M Ted (and with Gargoyle on the other thread): this sort of post from an agent is spam. Now, if Mr. Morey were a poster to the Mudcat Forum, regularly sharing and exchanging ideas and information about music in general and the blues in particular, then other posters might feel inclined to "give back" by helping him out of his predicament. But for an agent to use the Forum to fish for a commercial establishment – a "bar, listening room or book store" – that would be willing to book her client at the last minute so that he could be paid and the agent could get her commission... IMO, that's not what a non-profit organization such as Mudcat should be used for.

Hence my sarcastic comment to JMT (Jennifer Taggert, Morey's agent, I presume) that I posted earlier in this thread! When I first opened this thread and read Jennifer's post, it was my feeling that it didn't belong here and that she wouldn't get a positive response from many others in the Forum. As M Ted says, plenty of people who post here need work just as much as this guy. Some posters need it more! I can think of two regulars here, offhand, who've just been laid off from their day jobs; if I knew of a place where they could be booked for gigs on short notice, I'd certainly tell them before I'd tell a stranger who's an agent for another stranger! Heck, I could use the gig myself, since there's been a wage freeze for about 2 years where I work and my rent has increased twice since the freeze!!!

I don't object to thread-posts on the Forum about various performers as long as they are informational in nature and not solicitous. If Mr. Morey had become a member of Mudcat, had started a thread to introduce himself and had said "check out my website and give a listen to my music", that would be more in the spirit of the give-and-take of the Forum. But a "give my boy a job and I'll take your money" post isn't the same sort of give-and-take! IT"S SPAM.

I misspelled Morey's agent's last name in my most recent post. It should be Taggart.

So....... it's OK to be sarcastic and mean spirited to strangers?
