Lyr Req: Shenandoah en francais

Subject: Lyric: Shenandoah en francais
From: Allan Stern

Does anyone know where I can find French lyrics to the folksong Shenandoah? I'm told by folksinger Lee Murdoch (in the Chicago area) that the traditional lyrics are really an English translation of original lyrics sung by the French-Canadian "voyageurs." Any help would be much appreciated.

You can email me directly at alnstern@nscds.pvt.k12.il.us or to this list.

Thanks in advance.

Ah, Shenandoah, I longtemps pour vous entendre.
Voie hé, vous fleuve de roulement.
Shenandoah, I longtemps pour vous entendre
Ha ha, nous sommes liés loin à travers le Missouri large.

Ah, Shenandoah, j'aime votre fille.
Wey hé, vous fleuve de roulement.
Oh Shenandoah, j'aime votre fille.

Amazing what you can find in a good song. I heard Lee Murdock's Folkstage concert last Saturday, and he did say that. Out here where I live (I'll look for a citation) it's considered a riverboat shanty: those who had to leave the Shenandoah River in Virginia, and pushed those boats up past where the steamers went on the Missouri, which was the jumping off point for the Oregon Trail.
