JtS - May Your Sword Never Grow Rusty

07 Oct 02 - 08:51 PM (#798558)
Subject: Lyr Add: MAY YOUR SWORD NEVER GROW RUSTY
From: GUEST, Malveka

Hail and well met Jack the Sailor!

You don't know me, nor I you, though I do have the advantage of having read some of your posts here on the Cat, whilst I have generally only lurked on my occasional visits to this fine community. Still, we do have somewhat in common - I also found my soulmate in an on-line community, though one other than Mudcat. In my case she's the Canadian and I'm the Yank. Someday we, too, hope to make our home in the Great White North. My mate's moniker in these parts is Jande and she has been the delight of my life now for three years and more. Mayhap you have passed her a time or two on these convivial streets.

::clears throat and attempts to assume the character of a Newfie, sounding instead more like some sort of unnatural hybrid of Scots - pirate - Appalachian hillbilly::

Speakin' o' convivality, I'll be gettin' on to the point then. Here be a song that I did write that I would be wantin' to dedicate to yer fine self, as the happy day o' yer joinin' draws nigh. This be one that us byes would be singin' to ya fer fun afore ya be properly hitched. If'n any o' ye lassies be lookin' at this now BE YE WARNED! 'tis a bawdy bit o' singin we'll be gettin' up to (har!), such as us byes are wont to be doin' when we've nae got yer winsome selves about to keep us civil-like.

Roight then... ::taps a keg of Black Horse:: ...belly up me hearties and let's gi' ol' Jack a proper round...

MAY YOUR SWORD NEVER GROW RUSTY
-------------------------------
(Being A Toast to the Endangered Bachelor)

May your sword never grow rusty
May your beard never grow thin
Hark now the wisdom of sages
You've got to be up to be in!

[chorus]
Come good fellow sit by me
Take your pick of all good ale
Lend me thine ear on your joining's eve
And I'll toast thee without fail
I say!
I'll toast thee without fail!

May your sword never grow rusty
May life's blessings flow from the spout
Just recall that the blessing of children
May be yours if you don't pull out

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
Won't you heed now the words of this clown
Remember that after you're married
'Tis only computers that go down

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
May your frame always be stout
Be sure that you know all the exits
When she gets the frying pan out

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
May your love life never go bust
But on those days when love isn't working
Don't forget you've always got lust

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
May you know that it often is quipped
That vows will truly be tested
When she tells you to get yourself snipped

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
May you find yourself aging with grace
But if on two legs you find yourself limping
Oysters help keep your rod in the race

[chorus]

May your sword never grow rusty
But if perchance you find that it should
Forget not the Falls of Niagra
Though Viagra, they say, works as good

--------------------------------------------------------
Don't be shy! Additional verses welcome. 8^)

Best wishes to Jack the Sailor and CarolC!

Malveka

Sorcha - Thanks! It's actually a story with a lot more excitement, joy and dark scary bits than what I've hinted at here. Like any good adventure! 8^)

Hesperis - Indeed, no rust here LOL! Like Jande said, we're still trying to figure out whether or not we can swing the trip. I'd really like to go!

Great song, Malveka! I hope we get to meet you and Jande at the wedding.

I wrote this blues song for the dear sweet man a couple of days ago...

Well, my fella he's a Newfie, takes me fishin' all the time
Yeah, my fella he's a Newfie, takes me fishin' all the time
I caught that big old cod fish, down in the maritime.

He's got a hunky dory, he handles it just fine
Yeah, he's got a hunky dory, and he handles it just fine
He's the skipper of my vessel, and he rows three quarter time...

(oh, yeah... ;-)

ROTFL! Well done, CarolC!

What a great line...

"He's got a hunky dory, and he handles it just fine"

Very fond of wordplay (and, well yes, ahem, swordplay, of course 8^)) am I. I thought about "May your cod never grow rusty" but it just didn't have the same ring to it.

Is "maybe" a legitimate RSVP response? Somehow I rather doubt it. But we'll have the actual answer RSN, really!

My sword has become very shiny
Its polish a glorious sheen
For I've found the most beautiful scabbard
That there has ever been

So come all you young lads of the Mudcat
These word are so true and they're mine
When your song is a beautiful Carol
Your life cannot help but to shine

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Newfoundlanders.
We'll rant and we'll roar and let ev'ry Cat know!
That I'm off to D.C. for to marry sweet Carol,
We'll rant and we'll roar til my wedding I go!

We got a punchin of moonshine from old skipper Eric
He made it in Greenspond and sent it up here.
We got whiskey and wines from the "Feller from Fortune",
He Got it Tax free from the Isle of St Pierre!

Fair well and adieu to the girls of the catwalk
To all you young strippers from here to Quebec
I don't want a lapdance now that I've got my lady
I don't want to see you so don't sit on my leg

So pick up your accord-yon, and you'll serenade us.
Play us a song my fine little maid!
It ain't fair to say that I don't like a squeeze box.
Its all on according to how it is played!

Malveka:

The local Gaelic Goddess, Mudcatter Áine, maintains a web page where she compiles the songs written by Mudcatters offered for collection, or snatched by her, depending.

You can find a link to her Mudcat Songbook in the drop-down menu at top of page (Quick Links). You can send her a Personal Message to advise her where to look at your song, also.

Regards,

A

We'll rant and we'll roar on the day ye are wedded.
We'll raise up our glasses in toasts not a few!
Singin' and dancin' in joyful abandon,
Giving our blessings to the hearts of ye two!

And music so sweet is sure to be heard there,
With many a squeeze, a strum, and a blow!
We'll sail that big highway 'til D.C. is near us,
To the day of your weddin' we're gonna go!

BTW, that's a "yes" to the RSVP. Better late than never they say! 8^)

Hey y'all!! Just wanted you all to know that I am keeping an eye on your collective creation here, and when you all get done, I am definitely going to include it in The Mudcat Songbook!! That is, of course, if you all would like me to . . . g'wan, twist my arm (hahaha).

Great song, you guys, and an even greater occasion for singing!!

All the best to the lucky, lucky couple AND all you wonderful 'Catters, too,

Áine (a/k/a The Keeper Of The Book, TGG, and Song Challenge! Maven)

Wow! A song that I wrote actually in a book. Kewl! Where have you people been all my life? For that matter, where have I been all my life? No, wait, don't answer that!

Truly I do feel moved. ::shy grin:: I'm really starting to like it here...
