Phyllis Calvert who was born in 1915 has died. her first film appearance was in "The Arcadians" (1927) and her last one was in "Mrs. Dalloway" (1997). In a career spanning nearly eight decades she starred in such films as "Kipps" (1941); "Fanny by Gaslight" (1944); "Mandy" (1952) and "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969) among many others. The ranks of the old-timers who brought such marvellous parts to the silver screen, is getting very thin folks and that is on both sides of the Herring Pond. Sleep well, dear lady. |
