'The land o' the leal' for ljc

Thought I'd respond to the request to start another thread, so we can put down our thoughts, and send "mindings" to ljc.
I always find his contributions in our native dialect refreshing, but I understand when people find it hard to translate. The farther you are from your native, or ancestral home, the more you feel the need to keep its lilt in your heart.
The news does not sound good, but I for one will hope for an imrovement.
Love from us all in Lairg to you ljc.
Crying and moaning on ilka green loaning.......Giok

Sing no sad songs for me Shed You no tears
Its not what I would want If I were here
But sing my songs aloud Drink pots of Beer
but no sad songs for me Shed you no tears

Chorus
Sing no sad songs for me
Live like tomorrow
Will Never be

Time is a fleeting And swiftly goes
Favouring no one As a river flows
No time for regretting Don't be so dull
Grab you the moment live it to the full

Lines I wrote into a prose poem, recently, as a rememberance for a member of my own family. It seems right to repeat them here:

"The dead are never gone. Their spirits, like drops of rain, fall all around us, seeping into the stuff of life as rain seeps into the earth: a coffee mug, a favorite shirt, the walls of rooms where beloved voices once echoed."

The world in which we continue to live is more fertile because of Little John's spirit. And for that, I am grateful.

Thank you, John!

My wish in his honor is that we could all see each other, one by one, as he saw us.

These are beautiful thoughts, and I know it doesn't sound as though he is in good shape, but I am not ready to start writing about him as though he is already gone.

Please join us, again, in whatever way you can, ljc, preferable without the need of a different kind of "medium" than this cyberplace. :-)

Yep that's why I send my best wishes and hopes, and not condolences. Save that for another time.

Believe me, I am. But if he has to go, I wish him well. I just hope he knows how many people truly care about him and want him to "be OK" regardless of circumstances.

when someone graces a community like LJC did here, they leave behind something in everyone who read their posts or traded PMs.....we all grow a little when one of us goes, as much as we hate to lose them.....

we are all a bit better for having had Little John, no matter how this turns out...

LJC, if indeed ye moost be off with ye, then as others have said here, go thou in peace and with our love, and that of many others; and *do* go gentle into that good night. / BUT, if it may please the Lord, you might still think on how my other favorite braw Scotsman, Dr. Liam Clancy, a couple years ago so greatly enjoyed reading the fine tributes pouring in when his demise was erroneously reported on the radio. And by God if you can return to us again, little johnny, yer gonna love readin' all this! And commentatin' upon it in yer grand tongue for to mystify us all once again!! / Either way: much love is with you, our friend.

Amen, amen, amen. Thanks for all you have done Frank.

(Amergin, re above, since I relocated Carrick-on-Suir to Scotia in the forlorn hope that *that* outrage, if only he could know of it, might bring ljc back with war-pipes skirling. Alas. May the Lord of us all receive his soul into His eternal care.)

THE FLOWERS OF THE FOREST

I've heard them liltin', at the ewe milkin,'
Lasses a-liltin' before dawn of day.
Now there's a moanin', on ilka green loanin'.
The flowers of the forest are a' wede away.

As boughts in the mornin', nae blithe lads are scornin',
Lasses are lonely and dowie and wae.
Nae daffin', nae gabbin', but sighin' and sobbin',
Ilk ane lifts her leglin, and hies her away.

At e'en in the gloamin', nae swankies are roamin',
'Mang stacks wi' the lasses at bogle to play.
But ilk maid sits drearie, lamentin' her dearie,
The flowers of the forest are a' wede away.

In har'st at the shearin' nae youths now are jeerin'
Bandsters are runkled, and lyart, or grey.
At fair or at preachin', nae wooin', nae fleecin',
The flowers of the forest are a' wede away.

Dool for the order sent our lads to the Border,
the English for ance by guile wan the day.
The flowers of the forest, that fought aye the foremost,
The prime of our land lie cauld in the clay.

We'll hae nae mair liltin', at the ewe milkin',
Women and bairns are dowie and wae.
Sighin' and moanin' on ilka green loanin',
The flowers of the forest are all wede away.

Little John Cameron got away and we are the poorer for it. As I said before, he infected this place with a joyous sense of irreverence and love of life. It will not be a quiet night at home for the lads on the other side of the veil. Enjoy him, boyos, for we surely have loved having him here, and will miss him mightily.

To those that loved him, drink the wee drop, cry the cry, and know that we are sorry for your loss and ours as well.

I think a trip to the hill with the old Low D to play an air is in order. To LJC...............God be good to him.

Sadly,

Mick
