When I was kid I was only ever allowed one ginger biscuit. I've just eaten ten. Great.

You realize that all the good things in your life are not because YOU are all that great. Thankfulness(hopefully) comes with maturity.

Wow, did you dunk 'em in your coffee first? I love the way they burn your tongue when I do that!

For me one advantage of maturing is that I can do what I want and say 'NO' when everyone else says 'Yes'. Or maybe that's just because I'm being sod sided. Tell you what tho', I'm not a 'grown up' yet!

greg, that's just cheered me up on a bloody freezing day when I'm back at work after a week in the sunshine.

Did you also have "good" biscuits for guests?
I was only ever allowed either ONE custard cream or TWO digestives. There were chocolate bisuits, or even cake, when people came visiting (and me or my sister were sent off to buy a packet and smuggle them back to the kitchen).
I became a master at sneaking the one extra biscuit I was never allowed. Distraction, sleight of hand, furtive walks past the plate or tin...

Mum said i could eat more than one Rich Tea Finger, but who would want to? Now I can sit and dip Butter Crunch Creams in a hot cup of coffee and Bailey's, and nobody, but nobody, can tell me not to.

I can open the bag of chocolate chips (bought to make cookies) and eat them right out of the bag! YES!

Ahhhhh, that sounds like heaven!!
I think there's some type of addictive stimulant in those butter crunch creams. No one can resist a second. Or a third. Etc. A bit like Pringles.

I'd like to be doing the same, but I have to go to a departmental reception in 15 minutes. However, there will be wine...and maybe even cheesy wotsits.

I know what you mean. When I'm camping, bliss is to wake up in the morning, have a whole kettle of tea and dunk half a packet of gingers, one at a time of course, before brekkie.

Helen has a great recipe with gingies - a whole packet dropped in a bowl, whack in a can of pineapple chunks, complete with juice, smother the whole lot in whipped cream and put it in the fridge to let it ferment or something. The pineapple/ginger axis is sublime. DO IT NOW!!

And I just remembered - when we had ducks, Helen used to get sacks of stale stuff from the local bakery, to feed 'em on. I came home from work one day and she was at the top of the garden, sucking the jam out of doughnuts, a whole bin bag full of them, before the ducks could get at 'em. She's 57 next birthday and nowhere near mature - just old enough to do as she likes!

Great!! Now I can lay in bed until lunchtime and no-one can tell me to get up!.............. Except now I don't want to waste my days like that.

O.K. I can eat a whole packet of ginger biscuits to myself!.................... Well I could if I wasn't three stone overweight and on a diet.

Well I can play my music extremely loud while jumping up and down on the bed!....................Now I'd sooner lay on it with my headphones on.

Clothes! Now I can wear my "loons", baseball shoes, tie-dye tee-shirt and grow my hair as long as I want without being constantly criticised by my Dad for looking like a "Bleeding Yobbo!"................Somehow the prospect of crushing my nuts into a pair of tight fitting flares doesn't exactly set me alight anymore.

All this freedom!

Somehow, I still can't buy a bag of potato chips 'cause I'll just eat them right up. The difference is now I know it and don't buy them. Besides, there are so many gooood foods and things to experience out there.

I don't know if I can put it down to "maturing" ('cause I may have done it when I was in my 20s, too), but I love being able to eat a whole pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia or Double Fudge* at one setting -- right out of the container.

*The "low-fat" frozen yogurt, of course. That makes the "meal" only about 800 calories. The ice cream would probably be 1200 to 1600. *G*

When we were kids our moms told us that when we were mature we could stay up as late as we wanted to. Trouble is, now that we're mature we can't!

That's a point... there is a person (I won't call him a gentleman, he isn't) who sits opposite me with whom I have a hate/hate relationship. I've eaten cheese more mature than he is.

There is a difference between maturity and being immature..... I hope I have one but not too much of the other....

G'day Greg,

"... only ever allowed one ginger biscuit. I've just eaten ten ..."

The trouble is that sometime after your Mum no longer tells you not to eat those extra biscuits ... your doctor does! (Hmmm ... Mr Bolton ... the cholestrerol values looks pretty good, but ... are you aware that you are a diabetic?)

About 4000 km of walking home nights; leaving the car behind whenever possible; throwing out the biscuit barrel ... and the sugar bowl ... reading up on glycæmic index and eating all the healthy foods - I am 10 kg lighter, bllod sugar levels all in order ... but: "Hmmm ... Mr Bolton ... Of course it would be better if your lost another 10 kg, you know!"

Regards,

Bob Bolton (Munching an apple for lunch time 'afters' ... instead of a tub of wedges)

lol!

a distinct adv. for me is in relationships with the opp. sex.

i think i'm perceived by younger girlies as a fiendly old grandfather type, so consequently seen very at ease with me.

i'm probably more chilled & laid back now than i ever was- so its much easier to make freinds wwith one & all.

Whats the point of maturing when your 86 year old mum tells you you're
having a hair cut and beard trim for your nieces wedding?I still feel
quite light headed.
