Incredible String Band 2002. Any good?

I've just noticed that the Incredible String Band are playing near me next week.

When they first 'reformed' a few years back, the reviews were decidedly cool. See this thread, for example.

Wondered if anyone has seen them on the current tour. Any views.

My experience of seeing late 60's bands playing recently has varied from the sublime (Arthur Lee's Love) to the utterly embarrassing (Caravan)

Are the ISB still the latter?

Ed

Thanks Shambles, but I was rather hoping to hear something that I didn't already know.

Their 1st album is always on in my car, I just love it, and it was so much a part of my growing up, musically speaking, in the 60s.

Thanks Shambles, but I was rather hoping to hear something that I didn't already know.

You may have known this information but you are not the only one who will read this thread. How on earth was I to know what you knew?

As I did not know which concert was near to you or when, it was possible by providing the information that I could have alerted someone who could have seen a show before you and answered your question.

But as you no doubt would have also known, the first date was only yesterday, so it was pretty unlikely that you would have received an answer from the relatively small sample of folk attending on that one date.

We will see if anyone did attend and if your question was as silly as it appears. There really was no need to sound so snotty.

I'm sorry if I sounded 'snotty' It certainly wasn't intended

I'm sorry too for my 'snotty reply. Ed I am perhaps feeling a little over sensitive at the moment but I am also interested in the answer to your question. Which date were you thinking to attend?

No problem, Shambles.

I was thinking of the Manchester (Salford) date.

Only having been born in 1967, I missed my favourite musical decade, at least in terms of being old enough to appreciate it.

These revival tours are all I can ever have, but I've seen enough dross to be wary of wasting my limited funds.

I agree about the 1st record and I must admit that I was there in 1967 and I can just about remember those days. Which is why I am a little wary now of seeing the reunited ISB as they gave me many nights of pleasure, and I like to remember them young and pushing the boundaries.

Apart from when they were just a duo, they were never a 'tight' unit and I think many newer viewers to this version may be expecting this. That was never their strength, I have yet to hear Robin ever sing a song the same way twice.

So it might be a question then of us sticking with the records and the memories? We will just have to see what folk who have seen this version have to say.

I too would like to hear any reviews since I intend going to see them in Beverley on Thursday of this week. They were quite shambolic when I last saw them (twice in Manchester in the late 60s and early 70s) but that was always part of their appeal for me - they would try anything and if it worked it was sublime, if it didn't they would try something else.

Rather that than a dull carbon copy of the record - they are always on the CD player anyway so that isn't what I want from a gig.

Come and see Boneshaker on Friday instead, Ed! Only £3.50 and guaranteed good. And you can say Hello to Mark Stanley in person! He sends his regards anyway;-)

Cheers
