Can't help with the lyrics, but I think I know their source: "King of the Hill" animated show on the Fox network. Maybe a fan page for the show might have them.

That did it, PoC.

If you wanna cook out you've got to worry 'bout; propane.
Put the canister down, down on the ground; propane.
Need a light, need light, to ignite; propane.

I got some bad news, got the burned chicken blues; propane.
Before your food is done, you won't wanna run out; propane.
Need a light, need light, to ignite; propane.

If your tank is done and you wanna fill on; propane.
Don't forget this fact, you can take it back; propane.
It won't light, It won't light, It won't light; propane.

I can't believe the writers of "King of the Hill" haven't taken this and run with it. It's a natural for Bobby.

A few more ad-hoc verses from the discarded lyrics file

If you wanna stay warm
Down on the Farm
P-R-O-P-A-N-E
If you're freezing your ass
Try cooking with gas
P-R-O-P-A-N-E

It's a gas
It's a gas
It's a gas
P-R-O-P-A-N-E

If you want to use heat
That burns pretty cheap
P-R-O-P-A-N-E
If you're broke in the bank
Try filling your tank
E-T C-E-T-R-A

(pass the jug please)

It's by a musical comedy duo called Pinkard & Bowden. The kind of stuff heard a lot on Bob & Tom.

Hey! But don't sniff (too much) of it ... I had an operation (1969, Tasmania) under the medical grade version: Cyclopropane. Most fuel gases are also anaesthetics.

Bob Bolton

Bob, cyclopropane is a different animal. The 3 carbon atoms form a little triangle instead of a line. It's an excellent general anesthetic, but it isn't used much nowadays because of its annoying habit of exploding if there's a flame or spark nearby.

Mark

Puts me to mind of a Red Skelton story--

This sky-diver has jumped out of the plane, and his main chute failed to open. When he pulled the ring on hus back-up chute, nothing happened. As he was falling he saw another man zooming up at him from below. He yelled, "Do you know anything about parachutes?"

And the other man yelled back,
.
.
.
    .
    .
       .
"No! Do you know anything about Coleman stoves?"

I remember sitting round a campfire at the Willow Festival in Northern Illinois. The campground as you approach looks like the M.A.S.H. set and has usually only been cleared out of cows the day before the festival so you have to be careful of where you step. The cows are moved to neighboring pastures but as twenty or thirty song cicles go on into the night, the cows "moo" in unharmonic response to the camp music. It may have been the booze but we placed more blame on the cow emissions when we wrote the parody "Methane!"
I do not remember any of the lyrics but it was funny at the time.

If you try to smoke it, it'll blow you to shit, propane.
If you puncture a can, you'll find your ass in Japan, propane.
It's all right, it's all right, it's all right, need a light, propane.

If you get near a match, it'll frizzle your snatch, propane.
If you smoke it to get higher, you will look like Richard Pryor, propane.
It's all right, it's all right, it's all right, need a light, propane.

If you put it in your bong, it'll blow off your dong, propane.
If you try to get too high, it'll, propane.
It's all right, it's all right, it's all right, need a light, propane.

This propane song probably belongs in this thread as well:

PROPANE BILL
(words by Charlie Ipcar, © 2007)

Driving down Stone Bridge Lane,
Just see old Bill running propane –
Drive on, Propane Bill!

Chorus:

Propane Bill, Propane Bill,
He never shirked, and he never will –
Drive on, Propane Bill!

Now Bill he drove a Dead River truck;
When they name it that you sure need luck –
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

The wind was high, and it was pouring rain,
But there was Bill driving propane,
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

There was downed power lines up ahead,
Bill hoped them lines was safely dead –
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

Bill stepped on the gas, and shifted gear,
And for miles around you could hear –
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

Now Bill's in Heaven with the angel band,
There's a ten-foot crater where he'd left the land –
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

Now Bill had a wife all dressed in blue,
She was heard to say, "My Bill's overdue!"
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

Moral: (Bill's widow)

"Don't you worry, children, we's still in luck,
You's got another daddy on the Time-Warner truck!"
Drive on, Propane Bill! (CHO)

Notes:

The report from my family farm on Georgetown Island this morning (April 2007) from Mother, after the recent three-day nor'easter, was that a propane truck from Dead River managed to make it through her driveway safely to refill her back-up electrical generator tank. The driver must have been pretty bold, given the tangle of lines that I saw the day before across the driveway. The lines were probably dead, given the other lines that were already taken down by trees closer to the main road. But there's always some risk of running across downed electrical lines with a propane truck, I imagine. His successful feat, however, has inspired the following grim but humorous ditty, to the tune of "Railroad Bill".

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Subject: Lyr Add: PROPANE (Pinkard & Bowden parody COCAINE)
From: Jim Dixon

A "video" can be found at YouTube. (Actually it's one of those amateurishly-made paste-ups of the audio, probably taken from a CD, matched with various still photos. This kind of thing is so common on YouTube that there ought to be a name for it. To call it a "video" seems misleading.) Here's my transcription:

PROPANE
As sung by Pinkard & Bowden.

If you want to get warm when you're down on the farm, propane.
If you live in the sticks and your income is fixed, propane.
It's so high, it's so high, it's so high, propane.

When your grandma gets old, you can't let her get cold, propane.
When your cousin she's hot but your fingers are not, propane.
It's so high, it's so high, it's so high, propane.

When your tank's out of gas and you're freezing your ass, propane.
When you think that you're stuck, here comes that old big truck, propane.
It's so high, it's so high, it's so high, propane.
It's so high, it's so high, it's so high, propane.

[This song is on Pinkard & Bowden's album "Cousins, Cattle & Other Love Stories," Warner Bros. CD 2-26844, 1992.]

[By the way, the original COCAINE, made famous by Eric Clapton, was written by J. J. Cale.]

What Buffy St. Marie sang was "Codeine" ("Co-dine"), not "Cocaine," unless she sang two odes to addictiive substances.

This is the one Eric Clapton sang:

COCAINE
J. J. Cale

If you wanna hang out, you've got to take her out, cocaine.
If you wanna get down, down on the ground, cocaine.
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine.

If you've got bad news, you wanna kick them blues, cocaine.
When your day is done and you wanna run, cocaine.
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine.

If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on, cocaine.
Don't forget this fact: you can't get it back, cocaine.
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine.

She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie; cocaine.

I had no idea there were already a bunch of parodies going from Cocaine to Propane. But here is my recent effort, inspired by the importance of propane to the RV life and the difficulty of finding actual pumps and pumpers, rather than swap racks outside stores. To try to fake a bass line on a standard guitar, I use the bottom notes on the guitar namely F# and E.

PROPANE

with abject apologies to J.J. Cale and "Cocaine"

Well if you wanna stay warm, you got to get you some
Propane
And if you wanna cold fridge, you got to get some of this
Propane

I don't lie, I don't lie, I don't lie
Propane

No I don't wanna swap tanks, I wanna man who can pump
Propane
Don't give me no lame excuse, don't say my hatch is too tight
Propane

Fill my tank, fill my tank, fill my tank
Propane

And sometimes you meet a gentle lady who pumps
Propane
Might be a cowgirl or goth, or she might own the shop
Propane

Bleed my valve, bleed my valve, bleed my valve
Propane

Now all the cool kids are getting licensed to pump
Propane
They better study their book, don't want to blow us up
Propane

It's a gas, it's a gas, it's a gas
Propane

(repeat last 2 lines, shouting last Propane, and stop)
