In the comments of a Russian-language YouTube posting of the song, I also found the lyrics, which I am pasting here, if anyone is still interested, along with my minor (and fallible) revisions to Google's (at least equally fallible) translation. But I have not yet been able to find the re-written lyrics from the musically identical "Sailors' Chorus" from the 1965 film "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!" Absolutely correct. The punchline in both verses is "The beautiful wife" – nominative case, i.e. she is the one who is yearning and then crying. |
