BS: Lyme Disease: Third time Around

What a real BUMMER!!!! First message I receive upon getting home from the Getaway was the Dr.s office calling to say my test for Lyme had come back positive. This makes the third bout with this disease in about four years. Biggest trouble I'm having is that I'm not getting the usual symptoms - bullseye rash, flu, headache or even the tick itself. This is just showing up in blood work, treated with antibiotic, pronounced free of the bacteria and then shows up again. Tomorrow I get to go into the hospital for a lumbar puncture to see if the little guys are hiding in my spinal fluid. I understand this is not a pleasant test and should expect an all day headache afterward. Are there any candles out there that could help me get through the day and the followup testing that I'm sure will be following? I'm very tired of being afraid to go outdoors because there might be some goofy little tick out there again with my name on it. "Big sigh"

Good luck in your bout.

Lighting a new candle for you, right now. Having lived in CT, with pets, we went through the kids and us picking up the little blighters, often. Somehow, we missed ever getting the disease, as far as we know.

If you are interested, an acupuncturist or aromatherpist may be able to help stave off the headache, or at least lessen it.

Candle lit, good thoughts coming...

I've had it myself, Mantid. The fatigue lasted a long time for me. Even though I had ten days of antibiotics, I'm sure that wasn't enough.

What is the test you were given? I have wondered if it lingers. I got a scorpion bite in the woods myself last weekend. It hurt like hell until today. Not much to do for that.

Unfortunately, I have had lots of crud from the woods, including giardia, which has been hard to shake in the past when misdiagnosed...(No wise remarks from the peanut gallery, please.) harpgirl

Mantid, I've had several lumbar punctures.

Drink plenty of fluids with caffeine in them.

Also, I've tried lying flat for several days, but then the headache just came when I finally got up. Just plan to take it easy. The headache isn't too bad if you don't have to go to work. Take your doctor's advice, but be sure to double check the lab running the tests.

If this is like a spinal tap----to check the fluid, I had no problem when I had mine at Mayo Clinic. They used an imager that allowed them to see exactly where the needle was going. That way they avoided hitting nerves and other stuff.

That said, the myelogram(?spelling) is a whole other animal. I was nauseus for days after those. Had to sleep sitting up pretty much----and no quick moves.
