23 Oct 02 - 09:54 PM (#809756) Subject: Lyr Req: NOBODY KNOWS IT BUT ME. From: Jeep man This is not about music, but it is poetry and really good. Chevrolet Tahoe commercial. Has been running at night on ABC. The narator (sounds like James Garner), recites the piece as you watch the Tahoe do truck things. I goes too fast for me to catch all the words, but the main theme is "Nobody Knows But Me." It is really a nice poem and I would be obliged to anyone who can get it for me.. Jeep |

23 Oct 02 - 10:57 PM (#809788) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: NOBODY KNOWS IT BUT ME. From: CapriUni This ad was just running on the TV at the moment less then a minute ago, and I, too, was wondering about its origin. I really don't think it was written for Chevy (All commercials, these days, it seems, are using already written love songs and such to promote their products -- I think this is part of that tradition) If I start typing, I might remember it: There is a place where I go, when I want to roam, And nobody knows it but me. The roads don't go there, and the signs all stay home And nobody knows it but me. It's far, far away, and way, way afar Over the moon and the sea. And wherever you go, that's where you are, And nobody knows it but me. Yay! I did remember it! (I think. Did I?) So (assuming this was not written by a Chevy ad exec.) who did write this? I've seen "Wherever you go, that's where you are" quoted several places (including the movie Buckaroo Bonzai, which came out over 20 years ago), which is one reason I'm assuming this is not something new that just came from the brain of an advertizing executive.... |

So I was wrong! Good work, Patrick O'Leary! It sure has the feel of some 19th century piece -- its meter strikes me as being similiar to "Winken, and Blinken and Nod." But I'd have to double check that. |

My dog Cody thinks it is great. Of course, this is the same dog that thinks that "Dumb Dog", is high praise. Jeep |

24 Oct 02 - 10:14 PM (#810686) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: NOBODY KNOWS IT BUT ME. From: GUEST,Richie There was a popular country music song I used to sing about 8 years ago with the same line, "And nobody knows it but me". I've got so many lyrics crammed in my brain I can't remember who sang the song. It's similar to commercial. -Richie |

29 Oct 02 - 10:36 PM (#814120) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: NOBODY KNOWS IT BUT ME. From: Jeep man Here are some more lyrics I added. When sung in a minor, it is quite nice. Thanks to all. Jim There is a place where I go, when I want to roam, And nobody knows it but me. The roads don't go there, and the signs all stay home And nobody knows it but me. It's far, far away, and way, way afar Over the moon and the sea. And wherever you go, that's where you are, And nobody knows it but me. There's a place near my heart Where I talk to the Lord And nobody knows it but me And he gives me his peace And he gives me his love And nobody knows it but me. It's far, far away, and way, way afar over the moon and the sea And wherever you go, that's where you are And nobody knows it but me. Alternate chorus: It's far, far away and way, way afar Or as close as I want it to be And wherever I go,thats where I am And nobody know it but me. |
