Dark, preferably. It does depend on the recipe though.

Amuse yourselves by checking out the following site, most notably the Hungarian breeds, under Protected Poultry. Just in time for Halloween, we have the Transylvanian Naked Neck chicken (the better to bite you, my dear) -- scroll down a bit:

Your neck is like alabaster, er, wrinkled old hen

I killed, plucked, and cleaned enough chickens in the 13 years I lived in Arkansas that I don't care if I EVER see chicken again. The only good chicken is one cooked by somebody else, breaded so deep I can't tell what I'm eating. (And the same goes for canned green beans!)

breasts cut in small pieces and stir fried with red bell peppers, scallions, mushrooms and canned pineapple chunks. Add some corn starch to the pineapple juice and pour it in the pan. Optional: soy sauce or Lee & Perrins White Wine Worcestershire sauce.

Mudlark,

You like your canned green beans breaded so deep that you can't tell what your eating?

Just trying to be helpful here but, really, think about buying something else.

Gray D...

Words are so tricky for the grammatically challenged...also for those in to much of a hurry to do things properly. But regards canned green beans, I've never tried them breaded and deep-fried, but am adventurous and would do if offered...crispy on the outside, mushy on the inside, that's what breaded beans are, mmmm mmmm good...

Rattlesnake ain't got no dark meat. That's why it's better. But soak it in salt water for a day to get the 'must' out.

Rattlesnake "musk", no ? Like any animal "close" to the ground - squirrel, mink, weasel, whatever, no ?

White and dark, that is, Ruffed and Spruce Grouse.... Kent County Chicken(s).

well, I didnt eat chicken for 10 years after I stopped being a sailor, why? We had chicken 2 times a week, every week, for dinner while at sea, and you could only tell Sunday from Wednesday because it was followed by Ice cream on Sunday. You try fairly bland tasteless Chicken twice a week for 3 years..... you kind of go off it!!,
Now I prefer chicken breasts stuffed with butter, Rosemary and Garlic wrapped in foil and baked.. served with a Grand Cru Chablis.

Sesame Street:

Chickens In The Trees

A pig, wearing a farmer outfit and holding a banjo, is sitting under a tree. If you look carefully, you can see the outlines of six chickens in the leaves of the tree.

Pig: (singing) Oh, there are chickens in the trees,
There are chickens in the trees.
Won't you listen to me, please?

(briefly, the chickens flutter about in the branches)

There are chickens in the trees.

Rooster: (entering from the right) Excuse me, old pig. I couldn't help but overhear you. Would you mind singing that song again, please?

Pig: Why, not at all - ahem...
(sings) Oh there are chickens in the trees,
There are chickens in the trees.
Won't you listen to me, please?

(briefly, the chickens flutter about again)

There are chickens in the trees.

Rooster: You know, that's a very nice song, but you've got it quite, quite wrong. I happen to be a professional chicken and I know for a fact that chickens don't live in trees.

Pig: Hmmm ... is that so?

Rooster: Absolutely. The very idea is utterly ridiculous, quite ridiculous. Chickens in the trees, indeed. What will they think of next?

(storms off)

Pig: (standing) Okay, fellas. You heard what the rooster said. Everyone out of the tree.

(The chickens all drop out of the tree, and walk away, clucking and pecking)

The fish she never talks about her million eggs or so.
The hen is quite a different bird. One egg and hear her crow.
We shun the fish but prize the hen,
Which leads me to surmise,
Don't hide your light but blow your horn. It PAYS to advertise.

I tried chicken once. It tasted like a cross between rattlesnake and frog legs.
