07 Jun 98 - 10:17 PM (#30286) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Big Mick There is a Soodlums series of books, small size, probably 5x8. There are four of them, with irish pictures on the front. One in that series has the words and music to Grace. I will look up the info tomorrow for you and post it here. I know that Elderly Instruments out of Lansing, MI carries it and they have mail order. I will get you the lyrics and chords and post it to this string in the next day or two. The song is about Joseph Mary Plunket and his fiance, Grace Gifford (?). Just before he was led out by the Brits to be shot at Kilmainhem Jail for his part in the '16 Rising, he married her in his jail cell. It is a magnificent song. Mick |
07 Jun 98 - 11:05 PM (#30287) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Joe Offer Here are the lyrics and chords for "Ireland," from Cowpie, the country lyrics archive. Cowpie also has a tab version. Mick, can you post the tyrics for "Grace"? If you can post the tune, too, that would be even better. -Joe Offer- |
08 Jun 98 - 08:17 PM (#30337) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: loganmallory@hotmail.com Thanks so much for your help, Mick and Joe; however, what I really need are the melodies to these songs. If you know anywhere that has a .wav file or something, that would be great! And, of course, sheet music would be the best... Juliana |
08 Jun 98 - 08:23 PM (#30339) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Frank McGrath I haven't mastered the abc music stuff which is not surprising as I still have to learn to read any type of music but I can email you a JPEG file (picture) of the sheet music. Leave your email here and I can sent it tomorrow. Frank McGrath |
08 Jun 98 - 08:40 PM (#30340) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Big Mick Juliana, The sheet music for "Grace" is found in the Mel Bay (not Soodlums as I previously stated)book called "Ireland, the Songs", Book two. If I knew how to make a wav. file I would either sing or send you a recording. At any rate, it appears that Frank is going to send you a JPEG. If you would like a copy of the pamphlet with the song, email me your snail mail address and I will send you the booklet with the music. I have an extra and would be happy to do so. You can email me at mlane@accn.org. |

Frank, if you want to click on my name below and e-mail me that JPEG, I'll transcribe it and post it here for those who use MIDITXT or ABC. Joe-Offer@msn.com |

I am not sure who wrote it, but Barleycorn is one of many bands that recorded it. I wish I knew how to attach a wav file, because I would send you a clip. Mick |
07 Aug 98 - 05:00 PM (#34406) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Jerry Friedman Joe (or Alan?), that abc file needs an L:1/8, and even then abc2win still has a problem with "calculated note length" at "position 170", wherever that may be. |
07 Aug 98 - 10:37 PM (#34418) Subject: RE: Music for Grace or Ireland From: Alan of Australia Jerry, Problem noted, there are a couple of aspects of MIDItext needing attention & I'll try to look at them real soon now. I haven't done much with it lately because of a very busy year and the hope that this forum would become more multimedia friendly (I'm sure Max is working on it). In the meantime, when I can find the time.......... Cheers, |

07 Sep 01 - 01:32 PM (#544579) Subject: Lyr Add: I SEE HIS BLOOD UPON THE ROSE (Plunkett) From: paddymac The song "Grace" is about Grace Gifford and Joseph Mary Plunkett, executed for his party in the Rising of 1916. The last line of the third verse is taken from a poem written by Plunkett. I stumbled across the poem in a recently acquired re-publication of a 50-year old anthology. Here it is for those interested. I SEE HIS BLOOD UPON THE ROSE Joseph Mary Plunkett (1887-1916)
I see his blood upon the rose
I see his face in every flower;
All pathways by his feet are worn, |
