I was in mudchat and it dropped me out & when I tried to get back in it listed me as already there and wouldn't let me in!

I wondered where the expression of "I didn't know if I was going or coming" came from. Mow I know!!!

I've actually considered creating a second Mudcat ID. When I'm staying late at the office, I sometimes refresh my focus by checking my personal email and newsgroup messages. Only if I try to use Mudcat from there, I get a "corrupted cookie" message because it's reading that I'm on a different computer. Or is there another solution I haven't thought of?    M.

mmb, check the FAQ on how to fix corrupt cookies. Basically, it tells how to clear your browser cache and start from scratch.

It's not because you're on a different computer - the cookie on that particular computer done crumbled.

mmb
I regularly post from four different systems and never have a problem with logging-on.
3 systems are networked (and firewalled) and probably on broadband at the server but 2 are definitely on 56K modems on the PC I use. Some on NT, some Win 95.
The only thing I try to remember is to log-out after every session (but not always) to prevent an imposter posing as me. On one system the cookie remained despite my surfing from home during its residency on the machine at work - when I had some.
The only problem I have had is going via "shorty.mudcat.org" - come to think of it, it was with this cookie that was generated via mudcat.org

Max &/or Joe is this relevant?

MMB--No, do what you're thinking of doing. Then you can argue with yourself.

At first I thought this was about people contradicting themselves on different threads on Mudcat!~ (Something I would never, never, NEVER do!!!)

Except sometimes...

I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!! It's Joe Offer's fault! The software is screwing up! AAAAACKKK@!

Hey, it's not MY fault. Unfortunately, Mudchat is on our weaker server, and it tends to burp at times. We're working on getting a new motherboard, and that should help.

What you need, Joe, is to acquire the "Mother of All Boards". Call up Saddam...

Must have been having IP-schizophrenia. Even my ISP was repeatedly asking me to give my password every time I tried to log on to Outlook Express email and newsgroups from my laptop for a few days. I was afraid it might be a virus, but a thorough check nixed that hypothesis. I had a friendly chat with Roadrunner's tech support folks, since which I have had no problem.
Meanwhile, I re-established my Mudcat cookie, so that is no longer a proglem. BUT - -
Would someone explain why I need to log off Mudcat, rather than just shut down IE when I'm finished? If I'm the only one using this computer, can anyone else pretend to be me, as Mr. Red suggested?
Truth be told, when I first "joined" Mudcat, I didn't know that I was declaring a permanent identity. Initials are so mundane! Can't I "resign" as mmb and re-join with my preferred screen name?
    Peace!   M. : )

this would probably be corrected by logging off when you get back on, then logging on again--sort of like a freeway intersection where you have to turn right to go left...i have been on there when some people
left and returned numeropus times..in think it was because they were getting bumped off..

I must start using the mudchat room - if Jude is there more than once - it would be a very cuddly place !

Well Jude, would you want to sit on a chair that was all hard frame and bare springs ? - I prefer comfortable upholstery !
