Who can help me out with the lyrics of the song Hummingbird as sung by Claire Lynch on the album of Alison Brown? If by chance you have the chords too, that would come in handy. Thanks from Holland!

hummingbird, hummingbird
I knew I'd find you here

bright lights draw you near
they always will

all that work and worry just to stay still

hummingbird, hummingbird
always on your mind

sweetness you must find
does it get you done

you never reach the sky
and you cannot touch the ground

soar, you will never soar
spin or swoop or glide

soar up above us all
in the shadows you must hide

soar, you will never soar
spin or swoop or glide

soar up above us all
in the shadows you must hide

hummingbird, hummingbird
so you spread your wings

if you forget to sing
you'll lose your song

then where will you go
when all the pretty things have gone

The lyrics George Seto posted are from the Honeychildren website, devoted to the music of Eddi Reader, who first recorded this song on her CD "Angels and Electricity" (Compass, 1999).

Eddi is a singer and songwriter from Glasgow, an amazing talent with a wonderful voice. On her latest album "Simple Soul" (Compass, 2001) she has a song by the same author, Boo Hewerdine, called "Footsteps Fall" which was covered by Maura O'Connell on Jerry Douglas's latest, "Lookout For Hope" (Sugar Hill, 2002).

Compass Records is owned by Alison Brown.

Eddi Reader is a treasure. I can't say enough about her, and haven't in this thread. Check her out! Here's her website.

Cheers,
Michael

Another great song recorded by Eddie Reader "Patience of Angels" was also written by Boo Hewerdine. This song has the slightly annoying quality that once you start singing it in your head, it'll be there for hours. Oops there it goes again - "There's a door, in a wall, in a House in a Street ...."

I think this is a fine exmple of a song that says a lot without saying much, if you know what I mean?

I think I mean it has very few words but has all the words it needs.
