I was wondering after my short visit to Yorkshire and the north this mounth , How meny CD's are out by Members in one of Mudcat's most active areas.. Off the top of my head Bill Sables has two werth owning , Sam Pirth has an incredable one with all those great young people.. (I'm glad they could all get permition to get out of class to go to the studio that day ! Just Joking !!)He most have more.!!! THen there's This great CD I just got from Oakley that everyone should own from his band CARA and the Sweet voice of Rosie Clegg who I heard at Greycap's session.in Harrogate . Between Yorkshire LAncashire Sunderland , Northumberland and Cumbria there most be a ton of great music recored.. Any thoughts ??????? THe night after I was at the Knox Arms I found out I missed Johnny Handle at the Middle Of Britton Hotel in HAltwistle by one night.. I wish I could be into places at once that night.. All the best to all here! I wonder how we can work at getting these CD's out there for us all to BUY and support.. More soon |

I hadn't realised it existed until I read her post. And finding that permathread isn't that straightforward anyways. (In fact I haven't managed yet.) I just got two older High Level Ranter cd's that bring back alot for me.. I spent years playing for New England square dances and alot of this music is related.. In feeling at least.. I know someone who recently recorded a punk band around a single mic! Mind you it was a VERY expensive Soundfield (originally intended for recording orchestral performances I believe). I've recorded a bluegrass outfit using only ambient mics - but soon reverted to a mix of this and close micing - I guess my instinct as an engineer is to make sure I can get control of the mix later in the process! They're at Saddleworth Fest this Saturday, Harewood House (twice!) and Robin Hood's Bay in August, Walton (Essex) and Otley Fests in September. A thumbs up and good raps from 'fRoots' - excellent review in USA's latest 'Dirty Linen' - and a fine report appeared yesterday on Radio Two's Folk & Acoustic Website (news page) - which pointed out that some of the CD 'appears' on Yorkshire Television's soap 'Emmerdale'. One track (Can't Go There) is even getting repeated plays on a 'country' station in Montana! (which worries them a bit I understand!) All of the band live and work tween Ilkley/Otley/Leeds - is that Northern enough? And Cleckheaton resident Alistair Russell and Maggie Boyle (Keighley resident?) are on it too. A Personal Message on this board will do, or you can go to http://www.myspace.com/bit_on_the_side where you can hear four tracks (MP3, not CD quality) before you decide. The CD is recorded so that we can reproduce it live, ie no megastar guests or 'wall of sound' overdubs; it sounds like we do if we play a gig at your folk club. A lot of the songs are about work, especially mining, and there is a blend of traditional stuff, contemporary songs and some of our own music.
