The Other Night I seen THE WILD BUNCH on T.V. There was an Evocative Moment in it when the Bunch on leaving the Village when the warrior called Apache was approached by a good woman of the Village and he was given a bag of Food by her and then she recieved and gave a kiss back to her kindred spirit who went off with the rest to seek his fortune . Has anyone the Lyrics in English of this Song which was sang in Spanish [or Mexican ] and The Origins of this Song . It was a well chosen Mood song by the Film makers to suit the occasion .I shall be power full obliged for such information . Thank You .

It's called "La Golondrina" and if you put that in Google you should find some info.

AMG/All Music Guide lists many recordings titled "Golondrina", and so does CDNOW. They are attributed to several different songwriters, including "traditional", therefore there are probably several different songs with the same title.

Click here for one of them. This site has Spanish lyrics and a midi file that plays automatically.

Once we identify the correct version, maybe someone will help you with the translation.

Hi-
You'll find a YouTube video of the movie version here (click). There are several versions of the Spanish lyrics in this thread (click) - the movie version uses portions of several of the versions in that thread.
This YouTube search will lead you to several Spanish recordings of the song, including one by Nat "King" Cole.

"La Golondrina" is a Mexican pop song from the 1930's or so, based on a poem written by a Mexican expatriate who was banished to France after supporting Emperor Maximillian on behalf of the French Imperialists against Mexican Nationalists in the 1860's (the Battle of Puebla, from which the holiday "Cinco de Mayo" comes from, was fought during the Mexican people's war for independence from Franco-European domination. The song thus talks about a swallow ("la golondrina") that is unable to fly and struggling to find a home (like the Mexican expatriate banished to France, missing his homeland of Mexico but unable to return). The words from the Wild Bunch version, translated into English, are as follows:

To where will it go to,
frenzied and tired,
the swallow,
that is heading out from here into the unknown,
searching for shelter-
but it won't find it;
oh heavens above,
and unable to fly (the poor bird)!

Next to my bed,
I will set the bird up in its nest,
where God willing,
It will make it through the winter season.
I am also
in the realm of the lost;
oh heavens above,
and unable to fly!
