Frida: Cornell Wilde in Drag

Went and saw "Frida" last night, what a disappointment. It is very beautiful, very spectacular intercutting of art and visuals, but the script is on the level of those terrible 1940's films of Chopin (Cornell Wilde) and Cole Porter (Cary Grant). The politics is completely confusing for anyone who does not know the subject intimately, and the plot is the "dying artist" relives her past. A dog pees on a canvas and Diego Rivera says -- wait for it -- "You are my best critic".

I've always thought that girl was in desperate need of a good eyebrow plucking....

Peter, don't forget Robert Alda as George Gershwin.

So who was the "sidekick" in Frida's film? Jack Carson, Red Buttons and Oscar Levant are dead.

I AM told however that Salma Hayak (sp) has amazing breasts.

Cheers

Rick

Let's not forget David Carradine as Woody Guthrie!! Sorry to hear it, but I guess the critics were right about this one....they've been panning it too.

The best things about the film are, indeed, the all too brief scenes of her mostly naked. Worth the price of admission.

Carradine as Woody G. Bad script, bad film, bad everything--He (Woody) deserved better than that sorry film.

While it isn't mandatory that biopics suck, it seems the closer they are to Hollywood, the more they are affected by that Great Black Hole where greed meets inanity.

Ms. Hayek is capable of much better and Ms. Kahlo is deserving of much better.

And another thing, thanks for reminding me - there is a biography of Frida Kahlo in the bookstores with a picture of someone who looks a lot more like SALMA HAYAK on the cover.

Or am I mistaken?

What's next - Glenn Miller bio with Jimmy Stewart on the front?

Hmmmm...too bad. It sounded like an interesting subject for a film.

The only thing I ever saw Cornel Wilde in was "The Naked Prey" and I would call that an extremely good (and unique) adventure movie.

Well, we find something to agree on, L.H.! I thought that Cornell Wilde movie was good too.
