I know of the LP but have never heard it. I might be able to trace a copy of the words if no-one else can can up with them easily. Joe's quote is curious. Tolpuddle is a good 60 miles from here. Maybe there's a Bridgwater close to there too (must be very small - wonder if I've a suitable map - Tolpuddle itself is small, just with a historical reputation). Although he wrote songs mainly about Somerset, he loved all things "West Country" and I seem to remember that he got married at Padstow on May Day. There is one of Trevor's songs in the DT - Dead Dog Scrumpy - I sent in the acreditation. Many of his songs were recorded by "The Yetties" who also hail from the same neck of the woods. I still sing "If the Piddletrentide Jugband hit the Charts" - if anyone wants the words (or at least what my memory and the "folk process" have transmuted them to) I'll post them. BTW Piddletrentide is so named because it's on the river Piddle, although it's often changed to Puddle (as in Tolpuddle) presumably to avoid embarassment. There is even a village called Briantspuddle, but Essex Girl refused to take a photo of me appropriately relieving myself by the village sign ! |

Some marketing guy made a wine in North Piddle and called it Chateau Piddle. We all could have told him - great joke - sell at Christmas - but generally a bomber. I remeber an area on the map called Piddle in the Hole and it was not that far from Bromyard (as in Folk Festival) but all the maps I have aquired since it has disappeared. Can anyone confirm I was not dreaming? |

Happy Days (or Daze more likely!) Lovely man. I recall his manager around that time was convinced Trevor with friends would get into the charts and on TOTP with a song about the fashion for wearing old fur coats, I don't think the project got past rehearsals but I can just about remember one or two lines (or words). I think the manager at the time was Kevin Sheldon who contributed spoken words to Lea Nicholson's Horsemusic LP. In fact IIRC Lea was also involved in the fur coat project. Oh and Guest from Bridgwater, the reason was that it was in the west country and allowed for the pun on BOTW! |

Crozier is a very local Bridgwater name and I wondering if the flying references had any thing to do with the nearby Pawlett Barrage Balloon Hangar. Oh well. But I see from google Bridgwater must have even the most tenuous significance for Mr Chris Joe Beard to name his Blues band after us. Btw, an American Alt Country singer named a recent CD "Normal for Bridgwater" as an in joke for his record producer and in honour of our town's dubious cultural & mental health reputation. |

(Much against our wishes I might add and because of that we are struggling and thinking of moving !!) We were moved to the second SATURDAY in the month. We will very likely be moving again.The old place is NOT the same- not the same team/times/ages/bar etc. etc. Our heads ruled our hearts.People expect better heating lighting bar facilities etc. etc.The staff there are LOVELY people, but it has been a struggle.I have not performed "Trouble Over Bridgwater" there yet as USA Americana has gained a foothold and "folk" has been discouraged.Not by me.
