Hi. I'm looking for sjine /christmas songs, parodies maybe, maybe not, that can have hand-drum accompaniment. Any thoughts? Thanks.   pbb

How about these? Masters in this hall. God rest ye merry, gentlemen. Noel nouvelet, Deck the halls, Patapan, the Song of the three kings (its an old troubador tune)

Not to mention "The Little Drummer Boy"!

I always loved that carol... playing music for the baby seemed the most apropriate gift of all.

The Huon Carol is a lovely but simple tune, and it is (loosely) based on an American Indian rhythm.

Some of the Christmas tunes from previous centuries would be nice e.g. Coventry Carol, with its very unusual melody, and some others whose names totally escape me - dang-it! The Holly and the Ivy (is that right?). I have a book buried in the depths of my music collection with some of those. I'll have to hunt them out for you.

Helen, you meant the Huron carol, didn't you?
What about: Shepherds and lasses come leaping and dancing?

G'day pbb,

Almost any of the songs tha Sydney Carter did on Christmas themes ... Sydney normally accompanied himself with rhythm - either a hand drum or just some folly bells on a strip of cloth (the sirt of thing you would mug a Morris man for!).

Unfortunately, Stainer & Bell (his publishers) have prevented the DT from giving any of Sydney's lyrics (and thus, credit!) for reasons that seem to make sense to them.

I'll look for some of his good (and trenchant) Christmas stuff and PM a couple to you. (Do you read dots - or would you prefer to hear a MIDI?)

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Drum sounds nice with "Down in Yon Forest."

Thanks...lots of great suggestions. Parodies would be helpful, too, tho' I often like to try my hand at them myself.

While shepherds washed there socks at night all seated round a tub.
The Angel of the Lord came down and gave them all a scrub.

Sorry, Huron it is, Animaterra!

I've got Tasmania on my mind because we are heading down there in January for a holiday. I've never been there before, although I've been to every other Oz state except Western Oz. Huon Valley is famous for apples, I think, and maybe Huon pine. Or maybe not. I'm getting a bit of Oldtimer's disease when it comes to rememereing useless facts.

Hey Bob..can't read tab, but can follow chords. MIDI's would also be helpful, as I need most of all to hear a tune to be able to figure it out. thanks again. pbb
