BS: From Andrés to all friends

13 Nov 02 - 03:14 AM (#824935)
Subject: BS: From Andrés to all friends
From: Escamillo

You don't see my posts frequently at the Mudcat, but I keep all of you very close to my heart. Since March, my dear wife Graciela was being examined by doctors and we have had negative results, but on October 23 we were informed that she is now a cancer patient. The stage is not early, despite all the previous results, and she is now starting a radiotherapy treatment on which all our hopes are based.

I don't want to worry anybody, but explain why you don't see me lately. She is in the correct way, and we are facing something that we could never have imagined. I know that many of you will dedicate a prayer for her, and I am grateful in advance. I'm here for her, for this long fight, with my sons and friends, and only That One in the Upper Room knows what will happen.

From time to time I'll open my big mouth (as in the recent Opera thread) and always look at the news in this wonderful community. My best wishes for you all.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Oh, Andres, I had hoped it would continue to be negative results. I am sorry. I, too, will continue with energy, thoughts, and thanksgivings for her well being and strength for all of you to make it through this.

I am glad that you've told the community, now. Mudcatters do wonders with their collective energy!

All our love to you, Graciela, and the boys,

Keep up your spirits, Andrés ...

Pied Piper mentionned visualizing the body attacking the cancer. This is a good suggestion--it's precisely what I did when I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 33... I worked with the drugs and radiation, by concentrating my thoughts during that time, on visualizing the therapy destroying cancer cells.

That was 27 years ago.

Take care of your wife -- and yourself. This is stressful for YOU too.

Best Wishes

Dear friends, I could wear out the word "thanks". Today she has had the first session, tomorrow will be the second, and so on. She looks a little better, may be the psychological effect of seeing other people smiling, greeting each other and asking each other how they are doing. She was treated very kindly. For the first time in many months, she told me "may God wish that this is my cure". Step by step, we could do it. All your good wishes could do it. Thanks again, I send to you all a big hug.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Perhaps, it is metaphysically connected to the economy you wrote about throughout the year? As your economy heals, perhaps your wife will heal?

Front Page - First Paragraph - Thursday, November 14, 2002 Financial TimesLondon

It is all too easy to look at Argentina and focus only on the recent financial turmoil. With thecountry's sovereign default and subsequent devaluation still fresh in people's minds, it is easy to overlook more recent developments. Even if there is growing likelihood that Argentina will agree a deal with the International Monetary Fund in time to avoid defaulting on a World Bank debt, there is still a widespread view that stability remains a long way off.

Best Wishes

Sorry about your wife, interesting how time puts things in perspective.

A few months ago your greatest concern was your country's devaluating peso.

Perhaps, today, you can immigrate to England where the economy and health care system are more "socially responsive."

I am sure there are many MudCat sponsors, particularly, in Hull.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Here is another article to add to Rich's

The Argentine government on Thursday took the extraordinary step of defaulting on a loan repayment to the World Bank, in a sign of its intense frustration over negotiations with the bank's sister institution, the International Monetary Fund.

The decision not to make a due payment of $805m places Argentina in the company of countries such as Iraq, Zimbabwe and Liberia in defaulting on loans from international institutions.

It makes Argentina ineligible for any new lending from the bank or reductions in interest rates on outstanding loans. Disbursements from existing loans, around $2bn of which has yet to be paid, will also be stopped if the country does not pay within 30 days.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Rich, Gargoyle, may be that the relation between the economic situation and personal health is more than metaphysical. A general stress and a feeling of anger and uncertainty has invaded all of us for more than one year now. And that is not what the body defense system expects from us. Cancer and cardiovascular diseases increased noticeably this year, and child mortality (once one of the lowest in the world) raised to undreamed levels. At this time I can't care less about the IMF and the payments to the creditors. Those creditors have been seeing how the money disappeared from the country before their very noses and have done nothing. Their local friends do have deposits in USA, Switzerland and everywhere, for an amount equal to the full external debt. For the rest of us, hard work is the only way. Fortunately, the cultural and scientific tradition is practically intact (no more than 3 to 5% of professionals have migrated to the same creditor countries) and we can have a reasonable expectation that the resources for treatment will be available.

Thanks for your concern and good wishes, we need them very much. A big hug for all.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Thanks BBC, Bassic and all who have expressed their support. Things are worsening. A brain damage has been detected today, and a possible change or increase in therapy will be decided on Monday. I know that many patients survived to situations like this and worse, possibly the key is pure love, or faith, or powerful will, and she does have the first two and fails in the third. How many times we've sung the words "The Lord" ? May He listen to us and let her stay with us a little longer.

One of our best Mudcatters, one of those (like Skarpi) that you sincerely hope, one day, to meet.

I have often thought that ones life is best measured by how s/he handles times like this. Andres, in his committment to his Graciela, has already shown how his trip will be measured. It is reassuring for me to read that he and Graciela have children. Surely this place will be better for their being reared by such as these. Good luck, Graciela, in this struggle. Face it with the reassurance that there is a worldwide group of people that are keeping you in thoughts, prayers, and good and caring feelings. We are rooting for you.

My wife has been stabilized and she maintains a weak equilibrium that could be broken in any moment by a new attack of the disease. If this stable condition continues, the radiotherapy will soon produce its effects and the tumors (now 2) will be reduced enough to allow the doctors to decide an operation or continue the radiation. She is slowly recovering control of her right members and tomorrow will try to stand up on her legs. We pray for this cruel and incredibly fast disease to give us a break.

On Sunday when the chapel was desert, I softly sang "Pietá Signore" because I didn't find other words. On Tuesday my son Javier prayed for her mother in the same chapel. Yesterday Javier received the happiest news we could ever expect. Our first grandchild is coming. Is this a little gift from Him ? Did He heard our prayer ? We rushed to tell Graciela the good news, and although she is very tired and sleepy, she cried and smiled, and promised us to make her effort in this fight, to see that little angel who comes perhaps to save her or to lengthen her life. I have never felt so grateful.

And also grateful to all of you, my singing and playing friends in the world, who concentrate in this remote site so many good wishes and prayers. Thank you my friends, I wish I could some day contribute with my prayer to another small miracle, wherever it may be needed.

Because I expect a small miracle. May He bless you all.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Graciela is regaining almost full control of her right side. Obviously the disease is giving us the break that we needed and prayed for. In the meantime, radiotherapy works its way into the tumors, she feels very tired and can't walk but she is improving. She uses her right hand to eat for herself, and looks much better. Perhaps she is gaining confidence, with the help of the love from her husband and sons, and from so many people in the world who have dedicated a prayer for her. I can't be more grateful. If the cancer does not strike again for a while, doctors can control it, and she will live longer, as long as that One in The Upper Room wants her to stay with us.

Un abrazo,
