BS: What has Hull ever done for us9?

There was a time when this forum was awash with all things 9Hullian. Some may yearn for such times, others will rejoice that the city no longer seems to have a discernable presence here. What do you think9?

Since I renewed my acquaintance with the Mudcat Cafe after getting this computer in July, Hull has daily given me at least a chuckle, often a hearty guffaw, and occasionally an uncontrollable convulsion of bust-a-gut-roll-in-the-floor-damn-near-having-some-sort-of-epeleptic-seizure laughter.

It has also shown me that people can be even less coherent and more full of horse-hockey than myself and, apparently, avoid the stigma of institutionalization.

I find it fascinating that the compiler of the Sea Shantymans Bible,
Mr Stan Hugill no less, shares his name with Hull. (that's if you leave the *i* out) (AND the g is obviously masquerading as a 9)
Some may say coincidence........others know better!!!

Well, every time I hear the name mentioned, I think of the fab song from "The Rutles" movie:

"When you find the girl of your dreams
In the arms of some Scotsmen from Hull"

Anyone remember that?

Despite my Cleethorpes origins I know that Sidney Scarborough's record shop had some real gems for early 60s fans of black music. Joe Turner's "Honey Hush" and Barret Strongs "Money" to name but two.

It's all a daze now, but I have a vague memory of the one-way system inthe city centre ... it's like one of those American cartoons, Top Cat or something, where the same shops go past in the same order every few seconds; I think we had to shake a six to get off it. I still wake in a cold sweat some nights, feeling as if the spirits of dead motorists had been trying to drag me down to the murky streets of Hull again ... aaarrrrgh!

I'm thinking a capital W for some reason. His bust can be seen in the Docks area near the loack gates to the marina near a pub called.............
