Tech: Preview for Personal Messages?

The more we get the more we want.

Having a preview facility on the forum threads has been really useful - not just because it's easier to spot mistakes on the preview, but because it means that we can check that the links work before we post anything.

So is there any way a similar preview could be incorporated into the PM page, where it would have the same advantages?

How about you just type yer PM in a text editor and then copy and past it into the MP text box?

I think it's a great idea for the next release, but some breathing time between now and then is certainly in order for Jeff and for Max!

Typing it in a text editor does for the spelling etc, but you can check that with hot lingo or something like that anyway . The really handy thing with a preview is that it is such a handy way of checking that any links work ok - as I have just done now. (And if I hadn't checked it would have come out wrong, because I had missed something out.)

No urgency about it, but I thought I'd put it up here for the future.

I was 'previewing' PMs before the system was available for general posts (and even using this method to preview posts). Just create your PM, copy the whole thing to clipboard (Highlight, Ctrl 'C') and send the original to yourself. If it looks right in your in-box then address the next one as required and paste (Ctrl 'V') the contents into it.
Simple. No?

This morning I've tried sending messages that I previewed first, and they didn't get posted. I finally copied my finished message into the dialog box without toggling "preview" and it went.

Anyone else having this difficulty?

I've been wondering if it would be possible to have the PM you're replying to up on the same screen so that you don't miss anything in your reply. Or is it just me being obtuse?

Have two windows open, Hil, one in each? That's what I do...

Yes Noreen, I was just hoping for it to get easier *sigh*

Two windows, both minimised so you can see both without having to click between them. I do that anyway with several windows- i take it you don't? :0)

Hi, Guru - You're missing out on a lot if you do Mudcat in only one window. I suppose Jeff could program separate windows, but that would mean that people could do it that way. Learn to use your right mouse button, and select "open in new window" when you want to post a reply.

Thanks Noreen, Joe - I'm still steam driven, but willing to learn ;-)

I probably didn't find exactly the right thread to put my question into. The problem of the preview wasn't happening in the PM function, it was happening when posting to public threads. But it seems to be cleared up now.

I agree, having a couple of windows open in Mudcat is the easiest way to go back and forth since the original message is only in your reply if you cut and paste it there. If I want to see how something was spelled or do some cut and paste from a screen no longer in view I have to open a second window and come back around to it. It's no doubt easier for those of us with large monitors. I have a high resolution monitor because I do a lot of web design and always have a couple of programs and multiple windows going. For lower resolution monitors, the easier option would be to have the original message appear in the reply.
