" BTW, the funniest thing I have on any videotape is Hunter Thompson having a "conversation" with Keith Richards "

My God. I read this from the "Neil Young 's Music" thread
and immediately knew the piece you were describing as I've been trying to locate a v-tape of that dialogue between Keith Richards & Hunter S. Thompson for years.
I believe it was they were palying Concert Video jocks siting all cozy and intinate in some kind made for TV den for some midnight rock show on one of the networks. ( NBC perhaps if memory serves)
I remember howling with laughter when , indeed Kieth Richards was engaging in a dialogue with Hunter and Hunter just sounded like Mumbles while as if keeping vigil for bats. It was a screamer.
I couldn't find a listing of your email address so ,if you care too,
drop me a line about somehow working out getting a duplicate tape ( I' ll send you the blank tape and return postage ). I;m sure I should be able to come up with something as rare v-taped off air that will never see DVD in return.

We had a thread a lttle back imagining the great potential double acts and so forth that never came together - and this sounds like one from that family which somehow made it into the real world for a fleeting spell.

When the technology catches up, you go putting that on the net for us, please spaw.

This would only be "more perfect" if Neil Young had wandered into the conversation...

So how about it , there, Spaw. Please don't make me have to go all the way to the "Museum of Television Broadcasting " in New York to track this gem done. It's a piece of pop-cultural history only true lovers of the surreal would appreciate.

Hunter S. Thompson and Shatner would be pretty riveting too...but highly unlikely, I'd have to say...

Naah - he'd be a lot more at home with the Klingons. Cosmic Hells Angels. They'd probably end up killing him, but they'd hit it off reasonably well up till that point. They'd probably eat his heart as a final gesture of respect.

And I think I could use one now...........

I read this thread last night and in my insomnia I went looking for this gem. It was on a tape that I had recorded the Dylan Tribute concert........"Was" being the operative word here. I had missed the very beginning of it but had the rest. NOW....Thanks to my wife's passion for all things Arlo (I like the lad too, but in this case.....), I now have about 3-4 minutes or so of weirdness before we begin an Arlo interview on some late night show thing (can't remember the guy's name now, but it's a small time show on cable. Not a bad interview as Arlo carrries this idiot who basically is a dumbass, but I am now missing something which I would upon occasion put on when I believed the world was becoming weird. Listening to those Hunter and Keith would bring my own personal weirdness to a manageable level.

So.......................

If anyone else has this thing in it's entirety, I too would now like to have it!!!! I can't remember the program or the circumstances of it that I recorded it from so I'm off on a personal quest to see if I can find out for what reason and when it was done in hopes of locating it. Any help is appreciated. I did sit and replay the few minutes several times and it seemed to help even so......

Spaw

Well Done, MacGrath!!!. I knew it was some kind of Midnight Concert-type program. I completely got wrong whom was interviewing whom ,but then Kieth was the more articulate and i only saw it once.
But, again ,Well Done MacGrath. By tracking down the source ,and thus "owner" of the master archive tapes I'll set to work finding out ,and lobbying for ,this Mr. Saltz to seriously think about putting together a DVD of choice shows from his archive.
I could see MTV showing it as "archive footage" considering the success fo its original shows like "Jackas" they're not about airing anything.

Anyway ,I well remember the celebrated release on video of a single episode of the UK program "Rock & Roll Circus" w/ The Rolling Stones as the stars backed up with performances of the then brand new Jethro Tull ,then The Who ,and then Jagger doing a perforamcne of sympathy for the devil where at the end he strips off his shirt to reveal a rather childishly sketched fake tatoo of a devil on his Bosnia-style ribcaged chest. It wasonly shown once and then, on its 20th anniversary of airing it was released as a video.
Upshot is that if there's interest ,there's definite hope.
Thanks again MacGrath. Your popst is another reason why I *love* the internet's collective mind. ;-)
