There are still a few CD's by Big Mick's band available to any UK members. Send me a PM for information.
Cheers Bill

'Catters will know I'm more a blues person than a "folkie" but I enjoyed Mick's CD very much -so it must be good! (And a proportion of the profits go to Mudcat).

I have Mick's CD. It's his Irish-American ceilidh band. Straight-ahead sets of some standards, Rebel songs, and some less travelled.
I like it! Go get it! It's like having a visit with Mick.

Had a wierd moment this weekend:

Mick's CD is in rotation on my restaurant's CD player. Judy and Dennis Cook came in for lunch last Saturday on their way through town. Whoa! I heard Mick's voice, and saw them, and here I am in my little town in North Carolina, but I feel like I'm at the Getaway!

The CD is great stuff. The Sligo Musketeers always gets me moving a little faster.

Well, Kendall, you're just gonna have to do what I did to get one.
You're gonna have to go to Michigan to wherever Mick is performing with the Conklin Ceili Band, and genuflect in front of him while he's singing.
He loves the adulation, and he'll give you a CD for bending the knee!
And, if you kiss his feet, he'll let you sing a song or two on stage with the band.
I have to say that the CD was worth the trip, and the adoration of the Big Fella.

And don't miss the wonderful picture of our hero on page two, complete with the strategically placed music stand....

Wha's up with tha, Mick ol' buddy? And why do I keep thinking of the words of Jack Nicholson... "You want the TRUTH? You can't HANDLE the TRUTH!!!"

I just got a copy of Mick's CD, and, I like it. Nice harmonies, instrumentation, many songs that I have never heard, and the energy! If I had that energy, I'd get a job. Grab one folks, if you don't like it, send it to me for a backup in case this one wears out.

I love to hear Irish folk bands go at it live. One of these years, I hope to make it to Tipperary or Kilorgan, Michigan or wherever it is that Mick and the Conklins hold forth and catch their act live. Until then, I'm delighted to have the CD.

All the best,
Dan

Shit, Jed, I'm sorry. I am now organizing three, count 'em, three, shops all at once. All this in addition to doing battle with Walmart. When folks are putting their livelihood on the line and standing up for their rights, it kind of dictates 24/7 attention. I love these folks, and feel very obligated. I will check with Bill Quinn and get back to you.

Dan, I am still working on getting you and The Johnson Girls here. I will let you know.

Hang in there with me, folks. I miss you all like the dickens, but I am buried.

Jed, the email is mlane@accn.org. Drop me a line and I will send you my cell phone and home phone numbers.

Anyone in the precincts of Wayland, Michigan this weekend can come to Summerfest and hear us live. Our newish fiddler is HOT. You have got to hear our treatment of Tim O'Brien's "John Riley". We tied it up with Loch Laven Castle and it will kick yer teeth in. The fiddle and the mando just do battle and the poor rhythm guy (yours truly) just laughs and tries to keep up.

All the best,

Mick

got it Mick ... email on the way ... I also got help from several Mudcatters after posting this thread. Thanks all.

I love this place!

And it looks like it's all set. I go up to the Millstream in Oct. I'm on a very tight schedule this time around (dates in Texas and Louisiana at both ends) ... but I'm ready!

If Quinn's still game, looks like the January/Feb ramble will work fine.

Ahem. As one who fights a similar fight against the same foe - "Go get 'em, Mick!"

Listening to Mick's band is always a hoot. I'd be there if I wasn't scheduled to be in Maxville (where?) Ontario this Saturday - and Montral on Sunday.

On a side note, I've pretty much sworn off smokey bars of late - but if Jed wanders by the Office, I might break my pledge... ;-)

Cheers -

Pete

Other Maxville - Maxville, Ontario, in Glengarry County. Glengarry Highland Games and North American Pipe Band Championships. Largest pipe band contest in North America, reputed to be the 2nd largest in the world...

And an absolutely MASSIVE beer tent - 3 stages, music going on each stage, beer sold at approximately 141 beers per second (1999 figures - take the number of barrels used, multiply by number of gallons per barrel, divide by the ounces per glass, divide by the number of hours beer was sold, divide by minutes per hour, divide by seconds per minute) 10 stations selling beer, people carrying racks of beer through the tent selling beer.... The stages kind of get drowned out when some of the larger pipe bands decide to start playing. Did I mention that they also sell beer?

But, I digress..... did I mention that they have a beer tent with music and beer?

Pete
