I heard it sung by Ed Harper of Cape Clear (formerly Kidderminster). I'll tell you a tale about a lad named Jim turn him up and turn him down He lived near a pit that he worked in turn him up and turn him down He knocked of work about six at neet And though he lived just down the street He'd pop in at the pub to ease his feet turn him up and turn him down He always sat in the very same place turn... And the landlady knew him by his face turn... But then one day to Jim's surprise A new barmaid with flashing eyes Caused the oil in his lamp to rise turn... He bought her wine, he bought her gin, turn... He began for to tickle her beneath her chin turn... But then this feller about seven foot tall Has made our Jimmy look rather small, He says "Mate, yer hewing in my stall" turn... It was clear that justice must be done turn... And the lads gathered round to see the fun turn... The coats came off and the fists laid in And the colliers bet on who would win It was ten to one against poor old Jim turn... Now the fight is over and Jimmy's got beat turn... He was kept off work for more than a week turn... So come all young fellers wherever you are Don't court a maid in a public bar, Catch her when she goes out in the yard turn him up and turn him down |

I'm at work, so I can't look it up - may be The Pick and the Maltshovel. That song is certainly on it. |
