Artiste Req: Sit Down Song and Dance Man

I've been asked to try and find out who performed this song. It was apparently an English male singer songwriter with solo guitar, and probably dates from the mid-eighties. Can anyone shed light please?

Hi, Joan,

I had a prowl through google the other day when you psoted this and wasn't able to find anything except an article about Bob Dylan entitled "Mr. Song and Dance Man III."

I did find this resource for song titles. Despite the site title there are songs listed from other eras and genres. It might be worth looking at the Chronological Index, through the 80's, and see if anything rings a bell. Sorry, I don't think it's much.

Good luck,

kat

Sorry to be so long replying to this question, but I went completely brain dead on his name.I met him at Cleckheaton Festival way back then and stole the song from him.I had to go digging back through my
pile of assorted cassettes to get the name of Pete Ryder.I fine writer and singer who never seemed to get a lot of recognition any
where but his local area in Yorkshire.

Hi Joan,
If the song is
I'm a sit down song and dance man, a picker for the liquor and the wine, cos I'm a sit down sond and dance man ..............just suits me fine. The guy you want is Pete Ryder originally of Eccles now residing (I think) in Bolton. He still works the circuit and I believe may be booked to do a fund raiser for Cleckheaton Folk Festival shortly. He was due to release a new CD which if it is anything like as good as the previous one will be superb
Cleckheaton F F have a web site which should contain contact numbers

Excellent timing for this thread. I thought it was related to the Stand up and Sing thread....... thought someone didn't like song & dance men & wanted them to sit down....

Thank you all! Sorry to be so long in replying, I've been unable to access Mudcat for the last two days. I do know Pete Ryder, and I'll be able to pass that information on to the friend who asked. Thank you again.

Joan

This may be a "dead thread", but I recall hearing this (not sure if it was recorded by Pete Ryder) in a country & western style on a programme introduced by (I think) Wally Whyton a good few years ago. Don't know if Pete Ryder is C&W, nor whether this helps!!
