Boat Band in Sandbach

Well here's a little advertising. We're playing a gig at Sandbach Folk Club on Tuesday, Nov 26. Upstairs at the George, opposite the crosses. and if youve never been to Sandbach, dont forget to check out these crosses, very ancient with a strange mixture of christian and pagan carvings.
It's a nice place to play and listen, totally acoustic, and comfy seats.Though the beer alas is nothing special (so my CAMRA friends assure me, I'll drink anything).
As a special treat I am hoping I can drag along a couple of Kurdish friends to do a spot so you'll get a chance to hear some real hardcore folk music.
If any Mudcatter come along, please introduce yourselves.
And to avoid any confusion, the gig is in Sandbach, Cheshire, England,UK,Europe, the World, the Solar System etc etc. Not any other sandbach.

I cut my folk teeth at Sandbach folk club, and I'm not too far away now - I'll do my best.

Damn, greg, I don't think Sandbach is anywhere near Mississippi! I guess I won't make it this time! Pity! I love my Boat Band CDs!

I'm sure there is a perfectly efficient plane service. Look, if you can't be bothered to come, just say so. Dont make feeble excuses.

Hey, Greg, you all gonna knock 'em out, well maybe not exactly knock 'em out in the literal sense, but in the figurative knockin' out sense....

Say, "Hey" to Kate fir me and the P-Vine.

Bobert

p.s. I got a bear I shot up in the woods that I'm gonna need some help with if you're in these parts...

Bobert, whaddya mean "if he's in these parts"? hell, where ever he is, I am sure they have perfectly efficient plane services!

Them dead bears in the woods sure can make a stink!

I used to know Winston, who ran that club back in the early eighties. I ran the Alsager College Folk club at the time, as I was a student at the college there. Sandbach was always a good night, and back then anyway it had a perfectly good pint. Can't recall everyone whom I saw there - Eddie Walker, Simon and Hilary (of Spreadthick) and plenty of other talented folks. I wish there was a regular bus from Cologne. Have a good night Greg.

Well I'm getting a spledid response from Mississippi, West Virginia,Colgne and Hull, all unable to come. But I was kind of hoping some people from Cheshire or Manchester might bite on this bait.

A good time was had by all. Noreen made it, unlike Ed, John from Hull, and khandu. I'll give you all more notice of the next Sandbach gig as I want everyone to see the crosses.

Monday night - St Agnes Fountain @ Sandbach School - which is worth a visit in itself.

Hope your Boat Band gig went well.

Oh, I forgot- the Boat Bank were pretty stonking good too! Great lively cajun music (with lots of Lonnie Donegan tributes) for tapping the feet to. And I met another Mudcatter to add to my list: lovely to meet you, greg, and the rest of the band. Hope to meet up again with you all soon.

We'll have to get another Mudcat gathering organised- greg and co. will fit in really well :0)

...and for those of us in Wirral, Chester, Liverpool etc who couldn't get to Sandbach on the night to discover there's more to it than just a service station on the M6 motorway, here's advance warning of another opportunity to hear the Boat Band in action :- Chester February Folk Day
Along with Ray Fisher, Brian Peters & Gordon Tyrall, and Chester's own fabulous Waite Collective, the Boat Band are topping the bill for the Chester February Folk Day. To confuse travellers from Hull, West Virginia, Köln. and elsewhere the February Folk Day will be celebrated on the 1st March 2003 at Hoole Community Centre.
It was a great occasion earlier this year and promises well for next year.
Hope to see lots of 'Catters there.
Matthew

Thanks, Matthew! (How are you?)
So, let me get this right, the Chester February Folk Day is not in Chester, and it's not in February? Will it therefore not be Folk either (cajun!) and not a day??

the Chester February Folk Day IS in Chester, but it's not in February- it's in March & it WILL BE FOLK!!

so there!

Meaning of folf department: if cajun isnt folk, what is it?

Actually, the oat Band play pretty much 100% traditional folk music, mainly accordion(button) and fiddle stuff. We re pretty promiscusous about the geographical sources of the material, but we are certainly specialists(possibly the specialists) in NW English material (we have a CDs of Cumbrian and Cheshire material out, for example) and that is probably what we'll be concentrating on at Chester February folk day( which is, as has been noted, in March in Hoole).

To correct any misapprehensions caued by my typing, which owes a lot to John from Hull: we dont play folf music, and we're not called the oat Band. Or at least, not in March or February, or Hoole or Chester.
