Saw Clay Tyson (son of Ian) tonight

I attended a house concert in Barrie, Ontario (Canada) earlier tonight and had the great pleasure of seeing Clay Tyson perform. Having been a big Ian & Sylvia fan all those years ago, it was most interesting to see what their son can do. Clay has excellent stage presence, looks great, plays very good guitar, and does all original stuff.

Is it anything like his parents' music? No, not really. It's a mixture of very well played blues/jazz/pop/folk/etc, played on a Yamaha acoustic guitar, all up and down the neck. Some songs have guitar riffs in them reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix quieter stuff. When Clay was younger, he played in various rock bands...later was in a comedy revue for 3 years, then fronted a sort of electric folk trio, has now gone into acoustic folk solo.

If you get a chance to see Clay perform, don't miss it. I don't think he's gotten down to the USA much yet, but has played mostly in Canada. He's 37 now (doesn't look it!), and has been playing since he was 15.

Thanks for the review, LittleHawk...I didn't even know there was a Clay Tyson, but I hope he makes it to Middle America. Ian and Sylvia were big favs of mine too and their music has proved timeless. I was at a music party tonight, a motly crew not used to playing together, so it sounded more like chaos than song, most of the time. The one exception was 4 Strong Winds...everybody seemed to come together on that, nice harmony, sung with feeling, and everybody finished together...

With that group it took a powerful piece of music to do that!
