Lyr Req: Worms (Eat Some Worms)

Subject: Worms
From: SMJandKFJ@aol.com

Looking for the lyrics (many verses) to a child's nonsense song that starts:

Nobody loves me, Everybody hates me, Think I'll eat some worms.

Long ones, fat ones, skinny ones, juicy ones . . .

I don't know the song you are asking about but how about the worms in the grave that "eat your eyes, they eat your nose, they eat the jelly between your toes". Does anyone know all the words to that? - Philip Hudson

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me
I'm going to the garden to eat some worms
Big fat juicy ones, little bitty skinny ones,
And here's one just for you...

Down goes the first one, down goes the second one
I'm down in the garden eating worms
Big fat juicy ones, little bitty skinny ones,
And ones picked just for you...

Uh-up comes the first one, uh-up comes the second one...

and at this point in the song my mind goes conveniently blank and allows no furthur prodding of memory. I'm sure we sang several variants of the above words and I'm sure there are plenty of other verses or different regional incarnations of the same... Good luck with your further search. Hmmm. I DID have some weeding to do...Think I shall, in fact, go down to the garden. But don't worry: I'll warn the worms first.

Happy digging,

The Pogues included a version of that song in one of their albums:

The worms go in and the worms come out
The ones that go in a long and thin
The ones that come out are short and stout
Be merry my friends, be merry.

Title unknown but I always knew it as
I'm going down the garden to eat worms

Author unknown

This is a song I heard 40 years ago and have to sadly say its stuck
I really must get a life
Never wrote it down or had a recording so it really is just as I remember it

Nobody likes me everybody hates me
I'm going down the garden to eat worms
Long thin slimy ones slip down easily
Short fat fuzzy ones stick
Short fat fuzzy ones stick in your teeth
And the juice goes slurpppppppp
Bite of their heads and suck out the juice
And throw the skins away
nobody knows how I survive
On a hundred worms a day
Yum yum

Right I'm off for lunch

As sung in Boy Scout Camp and currently by neices and nephews:

Did you ever think when the hearse goes by
That you might be the next to die?

They wrap you up in a big white sheet
And bury you about six feet;

All go well for about a week
And then the casket begins to leak,

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
And the worms play pinochle on your snout,

And then you turn to a slimy green
And the pus runs out like whipping cream

Spoken: WHOOPS! I forgot my spoon!

He he! thanks, all!

We used the sing the second verse of "Nobody Likes Me" thus:

"The first one was easy, the second one was easy
The third one got caught in my throat *cough* *choke* ..."

And on the subject of earthworms, from an old BC comic book:

"Earthworm, earthworm in the ground
You see no sight, you hear no sound
You gnaw out tunnels down beneath
Without the benefit of teeth

Without no arm, no leg, no hand
We are behooved to understand
Just how, with attributes so few
They named a planet after you!"

The song where the 'worms go in thin and come out stout' I know as 'Where will you be in a hundred years from now' - sung to a refrain loosely based on the Death March

Where will you be in a hundred years from now
your teeth fall in
your eyes fall out
your brain comes trickling down your snout
oooh Ahhh
Where will you be in a hundred years from now

Where will you be in a hundred years from now
The worms go in
The worms come out
They go in thin and they come out stout
Oooh Ahhh
Where will you be in a hundred years from now

I learned this at school in the playground!!!!

Six stanzas may be found in _A Prairie Home Companion Song Book_ by Marcian & John Pankake (a good resource for this sort of thing -- there is a whole chapter called "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts"). It has the happy ending

Nobody hates me, everybody likes me
Never shoulda eaten those worms
Long slim slimy ones, short fat juicy ones
Itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Up comes the first one, up comes the second one
Oh, how they wiggle and squirm
Long slim slimy ones, etc.

God, I love that song:

Nobody likes me, everybody hates, just 'cos I eat worms.(Br)
Long ones short ones, fat ones thin ones, worms that wiggle and squirm.

Bite their heads of suck* the juice out, through the skins away(Br)
That is how I live and thrive on worms 3 times a day. (Br)

Chorus
Worms, worms, worms, worms, worms, worms, worms, worms....
*Big sucking noise here.(Br)

We continued this as a round with half singing the chorus and half the verse.(BR)

I learned this at a Scout Camp in Danebridge on the Cheshire- Derbyshire border in the 60's, from another group of scouts from where I do not know. I am sure it is alive and well in Scouting. It travels well as others have pointed out. I later used at Camp Greylock, Beckett, Mass. in the Summer of 1970 and with Woodcraft Folk in Manchester and still offer it as part of an Infant worm collecting science activity in schools.(P)

I have been reliable informed that if a circle of people stand on damp grass and stamp, worms will come to the surface. Has anybody actualy witnessed this?

Just have to add to the "worms" song from Boy Scouts in re. Rapaire:

We sang the first line as :
"Now don't you laugh when a hearse goes by
'Cause you might be the next to die"

After "the worms play pinochle on your snout" I remember the verse:
"They eat your eyes, they eat your toes
They eat the boogers right out of your nose"

Then real loud: "PLEASE PASS THE GRAVY!!"

Especially effective sung full volume at the dinner table on meat loaf night.

Cheers, Bo

I use the song (no body likes me, everbody hates me think I;ll go & eat t'worms) at the begining & end of another song that involves worms, it's called Green & Yellow, it's about a youngster playing in the woods and eating what he thinks are worms but they turn out to be snakes (green & yellow ones) the chorus goes 'oh Mother be quick, I want to be sick & lay me down to die'. I'm off line now till Monday, just finishing work, (what you doing messing about on the mudcat if you're supposed to be at work I hear you say) but I'll let you have the rest of the words if you want then

Another variation... learned at Girl Scout camp (Detroit area in the late 60s):

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me
Think I'll go eat some worms
Long worms, short worms, skinny worms, fat worms,
Itty bitty, teeny weeny woo-oo-oorms

First you bite the head off
Then you suck the blood out
Then you throw the skins awaa-aa-aay
Nobody knows how I survive on worms three times a daa-aa-aay.

Repeat first verse.

First you bite their heads off, Then you suck their guts out

Going to the garden to eat worms
Big fat juicy ones
Tiny little squiggly ones
Watch them wriggle and squirm

Bite their heads off
Suck their juice out
Throw their skins away
I don't see how birds can live on
Worms three times a day

Nobody loves me
Everybody hates me

French fried eyeballs swimming in a pool of blood and I forgot my spoon!!

Did ya ever see a hearse go by,
thinking that you're next to die.
They cover you up in a sheet,
and plant your body six feet deep.
The worms going in and the worms going out
eating your guts and spitting them out.

From Dr Sunshine's songbook-

I'm going out to eat worms
Long thin slimey ones, short fat fuzzy ones
Gooey, gooey, gooey worms

Well, the long thin slimey ones slip down easily
The short fat fuzzy ones stick
And when the short fat fuzzy ones stick on your throat
All the juice goes, "slurp"

First you bite the heads off
Then you suck the juice out
Throw the heads away

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me
Goin' down the back to eat worms
Long red skinny ones
Big fat juicy ones
Wriggle in me tummy type worms

I love the way they wiggle as they slide down me throat
So much nicer than a turtle or a goat
Oh, nobody likes me, everybody hates me
Goin' down the back to eat worms

Take your chicken
Take your steak
Buttered scones
And ice-cream cake
I'd much rather have worms...

(repeat first verse)

I love the way they wiggle as they slide down me throat
So much nicer than a turtle or an all-i-ga-tor

Nobody loves me, nobody wants me
I'm going to eat some worrrrrrrrrms,
Big fat furry ones, small little thin ones
All those juicy worrrrrrrrrms

I'll pick up those thin ones and slide them down my throat
Cuz the furrrrry ones they stick
Nobody loves me, nobody wants me
I'll eat those worms so quick (slurp!)

Oh and I tried a Google search for the words, which got me to this board.. :)

From a performance point of view
'....think I'll eat some worms'.
seems to work better than the other variations.

Bill Lockwood, one time Mayor of Middlewich, used to perform this song with great gusto.
But then, Middlewich does have a long and distinguished folk tradition, which stretches way back to...er...1990.
