That is the name of his hotel in the tiny city of Dunkeld.,and is well worth a visit any night or day for music . Friday night has a club in the upstairs room and Occassional guess on a Sunday. The Crown in Aberfeldy is well worth a visit on a Thursday night. The best place tho is Castle Menzies. This is a REAL CASTLE and has occassional concerts in a superb room. The Laird is usual serving behind the bar. Dougie appears in the hotel every now and then and sings, plays. He has a concert in the Birnam Institute soon ,I think Sat 7th Dec so he should be around. |

Smith wrote that he married the tune 'Lord Balgownie's Favourite' with Tannahills words at the behest of a young lady who was 'particulary fond of the Scottish melody'. At present they are 2 CD's containg Tannahill's poems. Despite what some people think, Dougie Maclean did not write all the stuff that he recorded. PS Scotland has produced many writers of song not only Dougie Maclean,but Archie Fisher and the late Lionel Macleland, to name but two. Regards Wee Jock |
