GOD BLESS MY KIND OLD MOTHER
T. A. Sowell

God bless my kind old mother
What 'ere my fortunes be
I'll never find another
Who'll be so true to me
Her hair which once was raven
Is lined with silver now
And crafty time has graven
Deep wrinkles on her brow

CHORUS:
Oh how my life would alter
If mother were not here
And how my heart would falter
Without her words to cheer

Yet tho' her brow bears traces
Of troubles and of care
To me my mother's face is
The fairest of the fair
So tender and forgiving
As gentle as a dove
Ah! life were not worth living
Without a mother's love
(chorus)

How often when complaining
Of life's perplexing care
When naught there seemed remaining
Save countless ills to bear
My mother's gentle chiding
Has turned my thoughts above
And roused faith abiding
In God's redeeming love
(chorus)

From American Memory:

God bless my kind old mother / by Frederick A. Jewell (Boston: Richardson & Co., Geo. W., 1881) [sheet music]

Was T. A. Sowell the lyricist?

Got this one in a folio of sheet music from the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. They only have Sowell listed and not Jewell. I'll make a notation on the music, and Genie, you can have the copy. PM me you snail-mail addy, or remind me when next we Runamuck, okay?
